Posted September 10, 2008 Share Posted September 10, 2008 I tried to change my icons i firstly tried to change my internet explorer icon in shell32.dll after changing the icon.When i paste it give me an error it is being used by another program so renamed my shell32.dll file in /windows/system32 and then i pasted my shell32 but when i restart my pc the shell32.dll file is rolled back to its orignal forum with the ie icon. dreamz Veteran Posted September 22, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 22, 2008 in general, windows will overwrite modified files using the stock file in the dll cache directory. this is called windows file protection. one way to get around this, as kmdonlon mentioned, is to use replacer. you can, of course, also disable windows file protection or replace the file manually by renaming them and then copying the file over.
