IE6 for linux

Recommended Posts

delete the file and try again, you propably got a choppy internet connection. You can also install ie6 manually with wine, ie4linux is just a script that do it for you, but it is not hard anyway.

I tried it and it worked fine for me.... using Debian..

I simply followed the instructions supplied.

No success here, perhaps it's because my proxy here at work is blocking it?

you download the .exe and you click on it. It will ask you for many dependencies, that you will have to install manually too, but after few minute, it will work. You can also use winedoor, an other frontend.

ies4linux is a .tar.gz (or compressed file). You have to extract it to reveal it's contents, that includes a .sh file (much like an .exe file). Once that is double clicked, it downloads the IE files and installs them. As stated above, it is really a script, as Linux doesn't use .exe files in that format....

You just have to already have installed wine and cabextract through Synaptic (or apt).

Well, it installed without a hitch here

Or YaST (openSuSE).

However, there has to be a reason to have IE. (For any enterprise that has Linux-based desktops in it, there usually isn't, bewcause they have made a conscious decision to avoid Microsoft products, for whatever reason.)

I know, I tried it last years, but it is buggy and rarely work fine. Winedoor is stronger and do the same job.

I'm trying the install from here

And when i run ies4Linux, it says:

79% IE_S1.CABAn error ocurred when downloading. Please run IEs4Linux again. Corrupted file: ie6/EN-US/IE_S1.CAB

thanks for the link, i installed ie6 and it works. i heard ie7 was available as well ? is it only in a beta stage or a final for linux ?
