+Gary7 Subscriber² Posted September 13, 2008 Author Subscriber² Share Posted September 13, 2008 it wasnt. Thats what Shift is for. Shift does not fill the screen. There is a 3/4 inch gap on both sides. We don't want to, therefore we won't. It's an old skin that barely anyone in the community uses, and those who do do purely for nostalgic value in many cases. Therefore, updating it would defeat its purpose. We have significantly more important things to worry about right now than changing the design on an old skin that was meant to be exactly the way it is.It's not a flaw, it's not an issue. It's design. OK I guess just because you don't want to is supposed to be acceptable. Why not add a skin?
Richard Hammond
Well considering the devs put their free time into the site if they dont want to then that should be the end of that, i dont see why they should have to go back and redo all the skins just because you dont like the way they are. As for adding a skin, they dont owe you anything, they put all their spare time into developing for Neowin and have far better things to do than change or add a skin just for you. Horrocks Veteran Posted September 13, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 13, 2008 Just end it guys, an ancient skin isn't going to change. If it bugs you THAT much you can use some plugins to re-align it.

For a while we were hiding that because we hadn't adapted it to our use but it seems to have been re-released.
DaveLegg Developer Posted September 13, 2008 Developer Share Posted September 13, 2008 Just wanted to point out 2 things... ... but I prefer them to be in the center. ok, but the other 213,104 have no complaints about it, why should we change it for one person? Secondly, this skin has been on Neowin since before I joined staff a few years ago, yet you only complain about it now?

Because those skins are now defunct, they are only left there for those that preferred the old theme, Shift is the latest Neowin theme.

Forget about it, if it is too hard to design another skin just forget it. I don't care that much about it. But it is a site and issues forum and I was just addressing and issue I have. All I get is answers like We don't want to..but that's ok. At least Shift is in the center of the screen . I will try some different CSS styles. shockz
The skin will not be changed... You've had 2 or 3 devs say no... and multiple staff say no. If you don't like it well... tuff... you don't get your way all the time. Stop crying about it.

Oh BTW, I am not crying about it. I for some strange reason thought that subscribers have a right to ask for something as does every member without being slammed for it. Jamushroom Veteran Posted September 13, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 13, 2008 Why should they make a new skin just for you? In case you haven't noticed it in the best but.. the whole crew only changes the skin when they do a major update for the entire forum/site. what
It's already been explained several times. The old skins are unsupported now. To use another crappy analogy what you want is like asking Microsoft to start releasing regular updates for Windows 95.

For Gods sake I am in more forums than this one and one forum had a new skin up in a matter of 30 minutes. It is not a big deal. Gary7's skin, no.But thanlks for the offer. :)

I'm not sure if you're aware, but the devs here do so in their own free time. (AFAIK) There's no real incentive other than their kindness of their hearts. For that reason, the devs can't be forced to do anything they don't want to do. If they don't see the point of satisfying 1 member by making a skin dedicated to that 1 member - then so be it. That's just the way the cookie crumbles. I'm not sure if you mean to be (heck, for all I know/care, english might not be your first language) but you are coming across as very rude and ungrateful of all the hard work the devs have put into this website. For the sake of 50 pixels that only 1 member seems to care about, is it really worth the devs free time and effort?

That's the only way I could see the "We don't want to" comment as being negative. Sure, they could have glammed up their answer a bit, but the end result would be the same. By the way, you can select the IP.Board.Pro skin from the drop down at the bottom of the page - that's full width.

DaveLegg Developer Posted September 13, 2008 Developer Share Posted September 13, 2008 The only one that gave me a real reason was not even a DEV or a Mod. A number of staff pointed out that it was designed that way, so it is intentional. Other staff / members pointed out its an old, no longer supported skin. If you wish to use another skin, use the IPB.pro skin. We will not on Neowin be installing pre-made skins by others, that would totally take away from the Neowin experience, not to mention half the custom backend code we have wouldn't work with it. Neowin is not just a vanilla IPB install, we have changed a lot. So much so, we even had to modify the IPB.Pro skin that COMES WITH the software to get it to work.
