Cosmin
So this will be the start point for default theme ? Based on this I can develop a new set of lite wallpapers or even icons but I need certified decision .
Barney T. Administrators Posted September 14, 2008 Administrators Share Posted September 14, 2008 Based on this I can develop a new set of lite wallpapers or even icons but I need certified decision . Capricorn has agreed to help modify his watercolor theme for us. What I can do is the following: I can make a mod of the current Watercolor Emico: Blue theme. I can change the color blue to the Shift blue. The original Blue theme also has orange colors for some controls. I can basically change that to the Shift green. I will give you a certified decision, Cos. We would like any wallpaper designs and icons that would compliment that theme............ I appreciate your help!
Barney T. Administrators Posted September 14, 2008 Administrators Share Posted September 14, 2008 Let's put all of our theming ideas in this thread!
Barney T. Administrators Posted September 14, 2008 Administrators Share Posted September 14, 2008 Mike has a custom modded menu that he has in his repo. This would be a great addition. What do you guys think? We would have to add our Shift start button and change the About box. http://raspberrylinux.com/berrymenu/
markwolfe Veteran Posted September 15, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 15, 2008 I like them. Obviously not for Lite/fluxbox, though.

Jamushroom Veteran Posted September 15, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 15, 2008 I've got a question. Do you guys want that Watercolor Emico: Blue (Modded ofcourse) for the default theme? Or, do you guys want to have Watercolor Emico: Blue SE (working title) as the default theme? I'm currently working on Blue SE and this might be done in a month. IMO it looks way better then Watercolor Emico: Blue. It doesn't look to sharp like the previous versions and it's more pleasing to the eyes. So.. do you guys want to have WE: Blue or WE: Blue SE (working title)? I can post a screenshot from Blue SE if you guys want to see it before a decision is made. Barney T. Administrators Posted September 15, 2008 Administrators Share Posted September 15, 2008 ^ Yes sir........ please post the screenshot!
Jamushroom Veteran Posted September 15, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 15, 2008 Alright, here's the screenshot :) Remember that this version is still a beta. I also want to ask if you guys can keep this image only in this thread because it contains a few stuff that I don't want to show off yet to the public. CrimsonRedMk Member Posted September 16, 2008 Member Share Posted September 16, 2008 Hey Capric0rn, I love the theme, but please don't cripple it with a bunch of Shift arrows OK? Not that you would, but I know what my OS is by the time I look at the theme. :p Edit: Also, Cosmin, I stand by the above ^, it doesn't need a shift logo and to be honest, it needs some grass and sunshine to match with Capric0rn's theme. Jamushroom Veteran Posted September 16, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 16, 2008 The start button should have a Shift logo instead of a Windows logo ofcourse :p Other then that there's no other place to brand the theme with Shift. The Shift version will be the same as the Windows version, except it'll have different colors and a different logo. So which theme do you guys want? The old theme on the SE theme? Cosmin
Don't know if any of shift linux walls are allowed without logo . The clouds version can also be improved . Thanks. also the user pic placehold is too simmilar with the windows version ..
Simon Veteran Posted September 16, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 16, 2008 This is a Windows theme that has become a bit of an icon within Neowin, Cosmin, we'll likely adapt it to follow a bit more Linux standards, without adapting the Linux style. Jamushroom Veteran Posted September 16, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 16, 2008 I'll need some help with adapting Linux standards in the theme. So you guys want to be using the Blue SE version? Because then I can just go on with working on that theme instead of putting it on hold for some time.
Barney T. Administrators Posted September 16, 2008 Administrators Share Posted September 16, 2008 So you guys want to be using the Blue SE version? Because then I can just go on with working on that theme instead of putting it on hold for some time. Yes, that is fine. I would also like to see the Shift arrows used on the start button (if possible). As far as the grass and clouds wall, I am not crazy about it. Smacks too much of Windows XP default screen. Can we use the walls that have been done for us, or is the theme and the wall integrated into one? Opinions? I am not the only staff member here. Progress ; working on quality and a few adds. Feel free with critics. (1280x1024) That looks quite nice, Cosmin! :)
Jamushroom Veteran Posted September 17, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 17, 2008 The Shift arrows in the start button should be possible. I'll try it out later today. As for the wallpaper, I think that the wallpaper and theme should compliment each other.
Cosmin
Based on the theme there will be several wallpapers .. will compliment for sure & public voice will give us the sincereliest opinion.
Jamushroom Veteran Posted September 17, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 17, 2008 Ah nice :) Then users can at least chose between default wallpapers :p

CrimsonRedMk Member Posted October 11, 2008 Member Share Posted October 11, 2008 Stop putting the Shift logo all over the place. It's getting really old.
Simon Veteran Posted October 11, 2008 Veteran Share Posted October 11, 2008 As harsh as that sounds... I agree. To be honest, I'd much rather see a natural wallpaper than something we render. I'm not saying what you're doing isn't awesome, Cosmin... but some kind of photographic picture would kick ass in this theme. Not the standard grass/sky, that's been done to death... but something real. Something that inspires people. That's what I look for in a wallpaper. Fact is we can't control what people do with their wallpaper. The best thing we can do is give them what we'd want out of the box, and I think most of us want something less... photoshopped. Jamushroom Veteran Posted October 11, 2008 Veteran Share Posted October 11, 2008 I agree that the default wallpaper should be a nature wallpaper. The wallpaper should also complement the theme in a way.
Brian M. Veteran Posted October 11, 2008 Veteran Share Posted October 11, 2008 I also agree with the nature style wallpaper. There was a slight discussion of London during the meeting - so if we'd rather go with something taken in house, and anyone can think of some nice spots in London, I'll happily take my camera/tripod to uni with me and take some shots (any excuse - and I have an emptyish day on Wednesday :p). Barney T. Administrators Posted October 13, 2008 Administrators Share Posted October 13, 2008 I also agree with the nature style wallpaper. I think that if we use nature wallpaper, we need to add a folder on the DVD with some other selections. I say this because there is a certain segment of the *nix user population that does not want their distro to look anything like XP / Vista. If we give them a choice, then at least they can find something else......
