Tech Star
Yeah its most likely an ad that was in place. I have seen this happen on sites like PSU, etc.
what
* The Norton rating is a result of Symantec's automated analysis system. Learn more. The opinions of our users are reflected separately in the community rating on the right.
tom01
That's Norton for you. Just report it to their support. Actually, if it's from a advertisement then it would be from a third party URL, not Neowin.
PL_ Veteran Posted September 14, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 14, 2008 This is one thing that irritates me about the whole "Norton" thing - their overuse of the word safety. It's all scare tactics, and what's worse is when people fall for them. Example: In PC World the other day and they have this stand up saying every one in six is a victim of credit card fraud. On the stand is Norton AntiVirus. I mean, yeah, it can help (killing keyloggers etc...) but when I see "IDENTITY: SECURE" on the Norton main page I worry about how many people start thinking that they're invincible and type in their details in stupid places. Rant over :p Is there any sort of way to report this as false? I was about to say, how could that page be a serious threat? Well, it could be seen as a threat to NVIDIA :p
JMann Veteran Posted September 14, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 14, 2008 Norton over-do Security imo, without looking at the original sources. :p I have submitted the site for reviewing again to get it removed; I am sure if a couple other people do it; it should get removed. :) @PureLegend: Bottom right corner, click the 'Request' button. ;)
UndergroundWire
I posted both reviews but Symantec's rating is what counts. It is driving me crazy when I am on this website and I keep getting blocked. So far this is the only website I have had problems with.
roadgeek9
Well, it could be seen as a threat to NVIDIA :p Oh, so it was NVIDIA who reported it.... :woot:
Fred Derf Veteran Posted September 14, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 14, 2008 Somebody rated us 1 of 5 and said the "security threat" was that we were "Full of Trolls". I propose that it was a banned member browsing S&FI anonymously and my advice is for them to move on and continue your net-life somewhere else. Andy Payne
Norton over-do Security imo, without looking at the original sources. :p I have submitted the site for reviewing again to get it removed; I am sure if a couple other people do it; it should get removed.:) @PureLegend: Bottom right corner, click the 'Request' button. ;) The "request" button actually submits the request to the community for review. A site owner can submit a request to Norton for re-evaluation by registering as the owner for that website. See http://safeweb.norton.com/help/site_owners for information. And neowin.net is now rated correctly: http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=neowin.net
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted September 16, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 16, 2008 Somebody rated us 1 of 5 and said the "security threat" was that we were "Full of Trolls". I propose that it was a banned member browsing S&FI anonymously and my advice is for them to move on and continue your net-life somewhere else. There was another one. "so much spam, you'll be well fed and never go hungry. staff don't do their jobs properly. some banned members are wrongfully banned while the true tards and idiot roam free. trolls also tend to escape too often in the apple, windows, and gamers areas. on the bright side, some of the worst staff are finally retiring slowly but surely. site won't harm your computer, but is definitely suspicious and annoying (rated 3)." i.e. "whaaa, I got banned, neowin sucks"

JMann Veteran Posted September 16, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 16, 2008 Obviously this person loves Neowin: added 24 minutes agoneowin.net Rating Level 3 out of 5 Safe but Worthless Most of the "news" are thinly-veiled paid ads, in that the some of the site and hosting are provided by the craptastic Stardock. A lot of the revenue from subscriptions and ads used the be used to support a porn site run by a couple of the Neowin Administrators (namely, Neobond). At any rate, the site is "safe", in that it's not dangerous to anything other than your sanity. If you seek useful information from the web, look elsewhere, as Neowin is mostly populated by idiot teenagers, fanboy power-tripping mods, and general douchbaggery abounds. Site as a whole is a complete waste of time, unless you seek advice on what type of underwear to buy, or if Myspace is cooler than Facebook.
Lingwo
haha i just read that. The rating is for safe sites, so even if neowin was useless it should still get a 5 because it is safe.
