Xubuntu 8.04.1 - USB headphone drivers?

Recommended Posts

Hello! I'm about to install Xubuntu 8.04.1, and I've tested it from live CD... but there's one problem: My headset (C-Media USB Headphone Set) isn't working. Sounds comes from my motherboard's Realtek AC97 Audio. When I check Xfce Settings Manager -> Sound - I can see that there is "C-Media USB Headphone Set" and some [x] boxes ... but no matter what I set [x] or [ ] sounds aren't working.

I've also tried Shift Linux (GNOME) live CD - there wasn't any problems with that...

So my question is: Do I need some drivers? Or how I can make it so that sounds comes from my USB Headphone?

I'm little n00b when it comes to Linux (or English.. as you can see ;))

If the device manager shows it to you by name, it tells me that Linux is seeing it.

I've only used standard sound cards, so have never had a "no sound from device" problem before. Is it possible to show the mixer window you were looking at? Post a screenshot.

Could it be so that the sounds are not coming from my USB headset, because C-media is #1 in that list (screenshot ^) and not #0.. if so, any ideas how I can make it to #0?

______

btw. I can't edit my last post (Post #3) on this forum.. :| is it because it's so "old"?

I don't think that whether it is #0 or #1 makes a difference. I was hoping for an audio mixer shot, to make sure that the output is set to your USB device, and that it wasn't "mute"d.

Unfortunately, I don't have experience with multiple audio devices, or I would be jumping in with more suggestions. I was kind of hoping that others here might have some experience with matters such as this. But your audio mixer, and the output selected and not muted would be what I would look into.

P.S. And, yes, as a thread starter, you can always make edits to your first post. But any subsequent posts have a time set to allow editing, after which those secondary posts become permanent.

I googled little more and got it working with this:

asoundconf set-default-card default

..but 1 more question: when I install xubuntu and write that to terminal.. will it be permanent or do I have to write it everytime I turn my PC on and go to xubuntu?

If that command doesn't make it permanent after reboot, there is probably a config file that can be edited to make it permanent (or, worst case, add that command to the boot process).
