Vista Start Menu Guidelines

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else agree that the start menu should only contain program links and not uninstallers, links to application websites and the general pish that comes with software?

Its annoying in vista when you search for something like "un" and all you end up is a list of uninstallers with no reference to what they are uninstalling. Surely there should be some form of guidelines for software developers to follow to ensure this doesnt happen?

I think there should be a guideline, especially nowadays with the design of Vista's start menu; and the fact that through 'Control Panel > Programs and Features > Uninstall a program' it's very easy to uninstall a program. Start menu links to program uninstallers are probably only there now because it's a convention that has developed since Windows 95. And in those days it was less known and less obvious to users how to uninstall a program (bearing in mind that Windows 9x was a new interface). It's redundant and unnecessary now, imo.
