comawhite
Hi folks, I've searched, and search and searched again. I'm in a deep quandry. Having gone through a number of windows restores I'm utterly lost as to how to change my style. Back when I was an XP user I was addicted to new styles and had an amazingly modded laptop. Now I'm Vista Basic boring. So far I'ev used uxtheme changer from here and vista glazz beta. I'm running SP1. I only got Basic as I cba giving Bill Gates more cash, I bought a gaming laptop a few months back and Im just so sick of this default. As I said Ive searched like crazy can some one please just guide me to how I can start modding this like mad again. Without using WB or the likes (I had always used msstyles from demonoid and customize) rather not go for litestep either. Thanks in advance! Alexandre.
I belive all you need to do is use the UXtheme patcher, then you just place our theme under Windows>Reources>Themes. Then you right click on the desktop>Personalize>I think its appeareance>advanced , and select your skin from there. I hope it helped.

fix-this!
search & download the uxtheme for vista sp1 and you will have to manually replace the files under windows / system32. you will have to take ownership of the old files and rename them to .old before replacing them. reboot and then you can use a wide variety of themes but no transparency because you have basic. when you download a theme you have to place it in resources / themes. here you go
Kami-
Also, if you don't have a .theme file, youll have to double click the .msstyles file... ;/
SVG Veteran Posted September 29, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 29, 2008 According to Vistaglazz, the theme patch works only for versions of Vista which support Aero
comawhite
Tried uxtheme patch again and when I restarted I noticed where I put my password in was black (as apposed to white) Then an error appeared, uxtheme.dll is not present, windows explorer and desktop proceeded to crash and I came back to my restore point. I took ownership, renamed files, copied across patched ones, and then this :/

comawhite
Guys I've managed to copy the files now without it crashing like before. When I try to load a new theme it goes to appearance and shows me Windows Aero, Vista Basic, Vista Standard etc. I click apply and it loads but there's no change. Am I still doing this wrong or is there a knack to this I'm missing. (all files are copied and in resources\themes as required) I read somehwere I might need .mui files and or to edit msstyles to include .aero somehow?!
