totalrod2
I've been using Resource Hacker for almost a year now and have been able to customize almost everything in XP. But I'm having a bit of difficulty with this latest hack. Mainly because there's nothing covering it online. I want to remove the System Tray "double arrow" icon from my toolbar. Seen here: (to the left of the thermometer). I know how to remove the ENTIRE system tray from my toolbar, but I don't want it completely gone, just those double arrows. Does anyone know how to do this? Bryan
Mike
just disable the hidden systray icons option?
Malskazz
but how will u show the hidden apps then?
totalrod2
but how will u show the hidden apps then? Um, I don't. I've set all my tray icons to show ONLY when in use. I basically do not use that "expansion" feature (the double arrows). I just think it would look cleaner if they weren't there. Bryan
dreamz Veteran Posted October 3, 2008 Veteran Share Posted October 3, 2008 if you don't want to disable icon hiding completely, check out explorer.exe, bitmaps 72 and 73. those look like the chevron bitmaps, but i haven't verified this.

I tried that already. I also tried 250 and 251 under "icon group" in explorer.exe. Those didn't work either. Is there anything I could add to the registry? Something similar to the entry used for hiding the system tray ([HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoTrayItemsDisplay"=dword:00000001) but only for hiding those expansion arrows. I know, I fussier than an old lady. Bryan
pjak
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer] "EnableAutoTray"=dword:00000000
totalrod2
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]"EnableAutoTray"=dword:00000000 That seemed to have the same effect as simply right-clicking on the toolbar: Properties\Taskbar\ then unchecking the "Hide inactive icons" box. Yes, the arrows DID dissappear, but now all the icons are showing. Not really the result I was looking for. Bryan

dreamz Veteran Posted October 4, 2008 Veteran Share Posted October 4, 2008 i don't think any registry tweak will work. it doesn't seem like something that would be controlled by the registry (as it's not something one usually toggles or sets). i'm convinced the chevron is a bitmap somewhere. you'll just have to keep looking around. but are you sure the file was replaced correctly? Robus
I've done it couple of years ago. It is a bitmap. I just don't remember which one. Here is the picture of my tray.
dreamz Veteran Posted October 5, 2008 Veteran Share Posted October 5, 2008 you're using a visual style there, so it's a lot easier to remove (simply edit the bitmap in the msstyles file). he can't do that here, since he's using the classic theme, based on the image.
