EvilDMT
Lately I have been using Azureus for my bit torrenting needs, but being a Java application it uses ridiculous amounts of memory. I was wondering what programs everyone here recommends. I need the basic functions such as blocking ip addresses and a scheduler. Any ideas? cwpenner
A quick search would have shown numberous threads like this already, but utorrent is by far the best. It's extremely lightweight in comparison with Azureus (which I used to use quite a few years back), and is very feature-rich :)
EvilDMT
uTorrent in linux? That would require Wine, I would rather a native application.. I think I might see how deluge is.
brentaal
+1 for Deluge It could feel a little bloated compared to apps like Transmission or such, but then again it's a lot better than Azureus. You could also try rTorrent (guide). Once you set it up properly, you'll have a lightweight app managing all your torrent files without a GUI (all you have to know are a couple of shortcuts, CTRL+S, CTRL+D, everything else would be set up in a config file, and torrents can be automatically loaded from a folder). markwolfe Veteran Posted October 8, 2008 Veteran Share Posted October 8, 2008 I just use the Transmission client that comes with Ubuntu. Prior to that I used Azureus for a while. And even the bittorrent CLI (no GUI) app.
darren89
i'll prefer to use Deluge while i'm operating in linux. its stable and doesn't consume as much memory as azureus.
Reacon
Bitcomet tends to be faster in download speed due to the fact that it manipulates the bittorrent protocol in a malicious way. It makes other clients think your computer is more capable of uploading than you actually are, and they reward you with faster downloads. So, if you have no dignity, like me, you should use BitComet, other than that uTorrent is very good as far as saving on RAM and cpu. You don't even need to install it... And Azureus uses Java I think, so of course it's going to be slow :p

Numpad
i used to use azureus, then moved onto utorrent years ago.. it great little prog haha yeh didnt see it was linux
rson451
rtorrent is nice, if you run it in a screen session you can just run it on a remote box, or run it then detach it and never have to look at it again.
EvilDMT
I really wanted to use Deluge, seems where i get my torrents from its a banned client. So I guess I'll just stick with Azureus for the time being.
David Scaife
KTorrent is worth taking a look at, especially if you prefer Qt apps.

Gundamdriver
+1 for rTorrent. You need to spend sometime to memorize the keys (such as a, s, d, z, x, c, Ctrl+S, Ctrl+D...etc, you need them frequently), after you have learnt them, rTorrent is very efficient. ScorpioRGc1
Although my Linux experience is severely limited, I have used Deluge and it seemed to work well enough. On Windows, I've really come to like uTorrent, which *can* be run on Linux with WINE (as previously mentioned.
