bradavon
I happily used Windows Explorer for 12 years but the Media View (where the view changes constantly) in Vista is so annoying I can no longer use it, especially as I cannot find a way to disable it. The file copy/move "Skip all" is much better though. So I'm looking for something similar to Windows Explorer in Windows 9x-XP. I have tested xplorer2 which is decent but it has an annoying bug whereby it loses all settings. Total Commander is powerful but the interface is hideous and I don't much like the two folder pane idea. What do you guys use? Thanks
Kami-
I use explorer, although I have used and do recommend... Nexus to anyone who doesn't want to use explorer.

static_geek
Total Commander UP I thought it was unwieldy and basic looking as well, so I cleaned it up a bit.
bradavon
I tried Directory Opus but found it bloated and overkill for my needs. Thanks for the other suggestions guys. I've found XYplorer, which looks pretty good. i agree that is annoying in vista, and i spent so long trying to stop it!!! whch is why i'm never leaving xp ! lol Me too. All the fixes I could find just stopped it happening for awhile before it started happening again.

bradavon
winfile.exe rules :D. The interface was basic buy in some ways File Manager was definitely better than Explorer.
mancode20
I use ExplorerXP, which I believe someone on here recommended to me. It's a good program that does what I want. http://www.explorerxp.com/

cork1958
i agree that is annoying in vista, and i spent so long trying to stop it!!! whch is why i'm never leaving xp ! lol You mean "another" annoying thing in Vista? That's NOT an annoyance, that's a feature!!
bradavon
You mean "another" annoying thing in Vista? That's NOT an annoyance, that's a feature!! Explorer's Media View is actually the most annoying thing I find out Vista, next is the fact it's bloated (compared with Windows 2000/XP). Otherwise I don't have much problem with it. EDIT: Is there no way to change the View or is it stuck to Details? I use ExplorerXP, which I believe someone on here recommended to me. It's a good program that does what I want. http://www.explorerxp.com/ Thanks. I'll take a look. Edited October 15, 2008 by bradavon
ArmedMonkey
Altap Salamander : simply the best it's norton commander style split-pane, has tons of plugins, support for rar/zip internally, file-splitting, file compare, directory compare, and a billion hotkeys not free though (they have an old version as freeware though)

bradavon
The copy/move window is much better (i.e - Skip all when overwriting) but otherwise agreed.
ArmedMonkey
Thanks. It looks exactly the same as Total Commander :D. it may look similar because of the split-pane layout but the functionality is really different.
