Question

file:///::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

It can help if you are in netbar or operating s public computer while the computer hides "My Computer" and refuses you access to it.

Those are just CLSID's. Here's a few more, including the Control Panel.

file:///::{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} (Control Panel)

file:///::{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} (Recycle Bin)

file:///::{208D2C60-3AEA-1069-A2D7-08002B30309D} (Network neighbourhood a.k.a. My Network Places)

file:///::{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D} (Printers)

EDIT: I'm guessing IE rejects the Control Panel CLSID as a security feature. The CLSID is valid, though.

If there is a group policy in operation having the control panel one wont do you any good, bacause the policy will block the request no matter where it originates from.

Heh. I don't know what you guys trying to do, but normally in public system, you are just a normal user, not Administrator. So what good does it do once you get inside the Control Panel and try to make any changes? ..(yeah you get access denied..duh!)

True, but there's a lot of lazy admins out there, especially in schools..

Oh, and by the way, another way of opening the Control Panel outside of IE is typing this into run..

explorer.exe /root,,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\::{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}
