first up, sorry for posting this, i searched and searched for some sort of official gadget forums, seems that microsoft doesnt really want feedback on them, so clinging to the hope that someone here might be kind enough to help

so it goes like this, i had to leave the house for a while, left my computer running, my nephew got into my room and started mashing the keyboard like kids do, by the time i get back i've got several hundred clock gadgets running on the sidebar and they eat up so much resources that there's not enough left to even close them down, just freeze the comp and wait for me to reboot, managed to turn the sidebar off after several hours but the same thing will just continue to happen any time i re-open it, i figured i'd just delete the clock gadget from the files on my harddrive, but microsoft has other plans, apparently administrator access isnt high enough to do anything with folders that belong to the sidebar, cant move them cant delete them cant quarantine them, the only possible way to remove a gadget as i can see is to open the sidebar and get into its properties, sadly not an option for me, before i can even get to the tickbox that tells sidebar to stop running on windows boot-up, it freezes, so... i cant use the sidebar, cant delete the sidebar and cant ever shut down my computer if i actually want to ever use it again?

if anyone has a solution for this i'll owe you for life, not to mention the 2 grand you'll be saving me from scrapping the computer

close the sidebar app and go to C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\ directory and rename the Settings.ini file and restart the sidebar app and see if that help.

If it does, you can add your gadgets back cause removing the settings.ini will clear out the sidebar gadgets.

and it crashes long before i can view the list of running gadgets, as soon as i open the properties it starts not responding

will go try the settings.ini now

- directorys dont seem to follow yours, after C:\Users\<user name> there is no AppData folder

putting up ss's just incase im doing something painfully obvious wrong, i know how annoying it is to help someone who cant help themselves, thx for trying

i guess its the same settings.ini as the one in c:\programfiles\windowssidebar\settings.ini, which is also protected by microsoft from being deleted or edited?
