ubuntu vs. mandriva 2009 ?

Recommended Posts

okay ive used both and both have good & bad qualities.

mandriva took along time to configure but ran very fast and smooth. the only bad thing i found were no support for my lexmark x1270 printer. the best thing was full support for syncing windows mobile based phones.

ubuntu is fast and easy to configure plus im used to it. all drivers seem to work including support for my printer. the issue i have is no syncing support yet.

i really want to get rid of windows vista and go linux all the way but im not sure which to go with ? if ubuntu would only get the syncing support mandriva has i would be 100% satisfied.

the biggest question is why doesn't the new upcoming ubuntu 8.10 have better syncing support. i mean they are both based off the same linux kernel.

I used Ubuntu 8.04 and Mandriva 2008 for a while, trying to decide between the two - Mandriva is definitely faster, while Ubuntu seemed more like an 'out of the box' OS, which took almost no configuration to get it how I wanted it. Not to be a troll, but I have since moved on to openSUSE on one box and Debian on another, and I am very happy so far (3+ months). But, between the two you listed, I would vote Mandriva, doesn't feel quite as 'bloated' to me.
