Changing Default Folder Icon to a different icon

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew how to change the default folder icon (which is just a yellowish reg folder) to this one.Plain_Folder__Empty.icopost-242722-1224024381.jpg

I know you can change them one at a time, and i thought if you could change file type icons in Folder Options it would let you change the default icon for folders, but it wont let you.

If anyone could please help me out here would be awesome!

thanks, Zab

Well, I've tried Resource Hacker, on Shell32.dll

But it always undoes itself after i place it in system32 or if i just change it in system32. That includes after restarts and without restarts sometimes.

Could anyone please advise me where to go from here? or if resource hacker is faulty or something?

Thanks,

Zab

Well I was able to replace the Shell32.dll with the edited shell32.dll with the folder icon I wanted.

But windows still loads the original default folder icon that we all know a bit to well.

any suggestions? cause i'm clueless!

have you tried to delete the iconcache?

IconCache.db in \Documents and Settings\*user*\Local Settings\Application Data

or rebuild it with tweakui (repair > rebuild icons)

I was able to fix it in the oddest of ways...

I loaded windows in Safe Mode (which showed all the folders as the correct icon that I changed it to), then restarted (I literally did nothing besides restart after loading in Safe Mode).

After restarting all the folders on my computer have made the correct transition!

Thanks for the help guys!

To change the icon right the folder u like to change. move to properties->customize->change icon-> browse to locate the icon file -> click ok apply. Now U can see the change in folder icon from traditional to Ur favorite(Plain_Folder__Empty.ico).
