And what was that sitting in front of them, people holding controllers? Gears?turning? Oh noes! Resident Evil 5 is playable by appointment. I have an appointment! As soon as we were done with the other demo I ran back over to claim my place in line. Soon, a game-hog was booted off one of the 360?s and I was ushered to the chair post haste. I quickly un-paused and found myself in the middle of a zombie mosh pit. The last guy had apparently been pretty far. I did my best to survive as long as I could, even though in my panic I had forgotten the Resident Evil shooting convention of bringing the gun up with one button and firing with another. I was soon dead. More at: Teamxbox TOKYO--Perhaps Capcom's most anticipated next-generation game at the Tokyo Game Show was Resident Evil 5. On the TGS show floor, the company held an RE5 stage presentation to give the game some extra promotion, with its release date of March 12 in Japan and a day later in North America just a few months away.Resident Evil's stage presentation started off with a showing of its official trailer (read our most recent hands-on preview of the game here). "With the game finally making its way to the next-generation consoles, the graphics have tremendously improved as you can see from its trailer. So we took the bold decision to develop all of the game's action scenes in Hollywood," said producer Takeuchi Jun, who revealed that film director Jim Sonzero, best known for his 2006 film Pulse, is directing the scenes. More at Gamespot The latest entry in Capcom's popular survival horror series, Resident Evil 5, has a big presence at Tokyo Game Show 2008. In playable form, the kiosks let players blast through several action-focused scenarios in control of Chris Redfield or Sheva. We had a chance to sit down and play for a while as well as talk with producer Masachika Kawata. The gameplay sections challenged players to fight through hordes of infected humans in dilapidated urban settings. The game takes place in Africa and Capcom has decided to set at least some parts out in broad daylight, which makes the game at least look quite a bit different from previous versions. In all it seems fairly similar to Resident Evil 4, with the same kind of snap-to over the shoulder aiming and shooting system. More at IGN Africa may prove difficult territory for Resident Evil 5, and not just because of Umbrella Corp meddling. The E3 2007 teaser struck an unpleasantly colonial chord by suggesting that - crikey! - you'll certainly be shooting a lot of black people this time around, and the media has been quick to voice its unease. The developers may consider the new setting just another change of location following RE4's European holiday, but the trailer's problem was that its depiction of a white man fighting off a depraved black mob was "imagery with a history", in the words of Newsweek's N'Gai Croal, particularly as there was no wider context available for those not versed in the series' back-story. -KJ
Something about the lighting/color palette is off to me. Like the highlights in some parts are way too bright, and the shadows are way too dark in others.
