[Official] Resident Evil 5

Recommended Posts

I have some other financial commitments this month which have to take priority, plus I've got plenty of games still to play.

I'll pick it up eventually.

Damn it's truth, let me see I have to finish Dead Space, FEAR 2, Halo Wars, The Bourne Conspiracy, Afro Samurai, Ninja Gaiden II, Street Fighter IV, Far Cry II ......

7-8 hours is fine for me, back in the younger days, I wanted 20-25 hour games but now with uni and other comitments. I just don't have the time to play them.

Actually I would prefer a longer game.

Back in the younger days, games were only $40 or so. Now their $60!!!

If they bring up the price, I'd expect to get more entertainment from it, like longer game hours.

MGS4's game length was good. That should be the standard, I think.

In before ITZ ALL CUTZENES!

To be fair though, if played at a normal pace and all cutscenes skipped, MGS4 actual gameplay probably would only be around 7-10 hours. There is hours of cutscenes in the game, and that's not made up, it's true :p

Of course that is part of the experience MGS gives you, so in essence it's length IS 14-20 hours or whatever length it took you to finish it. No one played through their first time skipping cutscenes, and if you did you clearly ain't a MGS fan :p

If you play through it again though skipping every cutscene at a normal pace, you probably will hit 7-10 hours. On multiple playthroughs with experience and knowledge of where to go, it's possible to hit 3.5 hours (I think, it's around this mark anyway), as that is what is needed to unlock one of the bonus masks in the game.

none of the emblems in mgs4 seem to require a time under 5 hours (if the guide on gamefaq is correct), i also thought you had to do it in 3.5 for the big boss one but it's 5 hours

Ah okay 5 hours is a little more like it.

3.5 hours would probably be pretty tricky.

Draken, you could have at least got us a vid which wasn't 90% menus and him **** waving. :p

Getting a bit sick of this tbh. Stop, aim, shoot, move, stop, aim, shoot, move, stop, aim, shoot, reload because your AI partner died, move, stop, aim, shoot, move, stop, aim, shoot, run out of ammunition and sprint for the exit.

Really? I haven't played it yet, that sounds boring, but I can tell it from the demo

Don't know if this has been discussed, but is it possible to play the campaign co-op with a friend (offline/split-screen) ?

yup, you can do that with the demo

Yeah it's Rez Evil 4 in a new setting with bad co-op AI. Not that there is anything wrong with Rez Evil 4. Well there wasn't in 2005... It hasn't came on leaps and bounds like you'd expect from a game moving from current to next gen. It seems like they just thought, hey, that co-op/small group gameplay is really popular now a days (thanks gears) lets push that!

The YAY BUTTON MASHING QUICK TIME EVENTS infuriate me too. :(

Damn Spookie, just when I thought I could get over having to play with BS co-op AI you deliver :p

It's so infuriating for the sake of the SP RE roots they just didn't do a secondary co-op campaign.

Another case of developers taking the "AHHHHHHHH ASJEAPIDHAIHDFAL;KFN CONSOLE GAME MUST HAVE MANDATORY MULTIPLAER OR CO-OPZ" route. I still believe I'll enjoy it though, but probably have to play with a friend to make it more bearable.

Man, I have never played the RES games, just because I never got into them, never had time. Resident Evil is my favorite story, and movie. I have read every game (wiki) and watched every movie, and know almost everything about it. So this is the first game I will be playing, and I can't wait. I am actually picking up the Red 360 Elite edition for it, since I don't have a 360 yet. So it's going to be quite awesome.

Most def. Though you will spend a majority of your time arguing over who gets what gun. :p

Bit unimpressed with the later half of the game where it feels like I'm playing a shoddy version of gears, complete with broken cover system! :D

RE5 Japan launch: PS3 and Xbox 360 sales in near tie?

As Japanese consumers line up to buy Resident Evil 5, Famitsu reports that the two console versions appeared to be selling almost equally.

Famitsu.com reports on the Resident Evil 5 launch in Japan, where the game and hardware bundles went on sale today.

Reporters were posted at a major Tokyo retailer, where a queue had been lining up outside the store before its 10am opening time.

Famitsu.com reports that the media were impressed by the sight of the cash machine ringing, whilst the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 copies were selling in a "virtual tie."

It's doubtful that this will translate into equal sales for both console versions, mainly due to the larger PlayStation 3 hardware base and the strength of Sony's brand in the country.

However, it's clear that the game will do well in Japan, pushing hardware for both high-definition consoles as they take on Nintendo's Wii.

Resident Evil 5 releases in the UK next week on March 13th. Please visit the Resident Evil 5 game page for all the latest information.

[uPDATE] - As reports from other retailers come in, there's evidence that both hardware bundles are selling well, but at one store the PlayStation 3 bundle sold out in only 20 minutes.

At another store, described as the "video game mecca," a total of thirty hardware bundles were sold at a ratio of 3 to 1 in favour of the PlayStation 3. Software only sales also performed better for the PlayStation.

Looks like the PS3 and 360 will spank the Wii for another week. If you look here you'll see the 360 still outsold the Wii this week, the week after SO4 launched. And the Wii numbers are extremely low considering it's the Wii.

Japan finally coming to their senses about HD consoles? ;)

How many ppl will buy it as their first HD console and how many already owns a 360/PS3 and just buy that because it's a especial edition

HD install bases aren't that high in Japan, I think the 360 is around 800k, and the PS3 just over 2 million.

Wouldn't surprise me if it's just a lot of people buying their first console with the PS3 or 360 special editions. Although Japan seems to like special editions/new colours, everyone over there probably owns like 4 DS Lites just due to new colour releases
