DrunknMunky Veteran Posted March 12, 2009 Veteran Share Posted March 12, 2009 Is that she-male Snake in the screenshot  Pass on the MP though (N) Co-op suits RE, but definitely not MP.

Vortex566
I love this game! I could finish it in one night but I have had to stop playing it. I can see myself playing this a few times over. The controls can be annoying and the AI is shocking, can not wait until I get a friend on co-op with me.

It would have been bad enough had they included it with the game. But to try and sell it as DLC is beyond a joke.
azz0r_wugg
Played it for a few hours. Seems to me that its more like Simple Resident Evil Online than anything. Which is fine, just not what I wanted froma Resident Evil game.

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted March 13, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted March 13, 2009 (edited) As a SP experience, it pales to RE4 due to the crappy co-op AI. You really wish you could just turn off Shiva to avoid her running out of ammo and being a general pain in the ass. As a MP experience you'll have a good time with a friend. Due to the roots of the game it's never been a MP title so it's got the potential to get unfavourable reviews from journalists looking for a SP experience. RE4 HD it is not, even although you'd be led to say that because of how little innovation has gone into the gameplay (in other words you'd think it was RE4 HD, then you play SP and realize it's not really). Capcom really have to make their mind up what they are doing with this series and I can understand those comments of a month or so ago from Capcom saying RE6 was going to be a reboot. I'd give it an 8/10 probably so far [don't get me wrong, it's far from a bad game], maybe slipping to a 7/10 by the time I finish it if Shiva annoys me enough. Funny we were just talking about instances were DLC can be abused, and this is without a doubt one of them.
Dirk
I enjoyed playing it last night with my friend playing it with me. My one problem is I don't like how the screen is set-up during co-op but my friend doesn't seem to mind. Speaking of the DLC, that is complete and utter ****. Titanium_NX
My two cent; Game controls are bad, not being able to shoot while moving is just annoying as hell. Graphics are good but characters seem stiff in moments. Animation is good. Your parner is a pain. Use to love the game in the past but this one was a huge let down. I agree, it is so annoying that you can't move, especially when using the knife, yet the enemy can jump out you with the spades and axes. Graphics are brilliant on the ps3 at least, some parts look so realistic. Luckily we're only playing multiplayer so we don't have the problem of Sheva being a pain, we've saved each other so much. Nah you're not the only person. I'm loving the game, I played the first few chapters with a friend, and played the past 1 or 2 chapters on my own with the AI. It was alot more fun with a friend, but I am still loving it on my own. The puzzles are pretty easy compared to the old RE games.
Stylez Ray.
Really loving this game right now. Feels great to play just like RE4. I mean people who are surprised about the game beeing not horror enough anymore should have known already that this is what RE5 will be like after all the trailers and especially RE4 because it has almost the same feel to it and this is the way Capcom went with this game since the fourth part. I mean you had the chance to try the game with the demo and you could clearly see what this game is all about. Same about the controls.
.KICK
I got the game yesterday, given it a few hours of play. Unfortunately, not tried Co-Op yet due to a certain major issue occured just as we were about to play it! (:() Okay, first of all Capcom really need to sort their V-Sync issues out big time. It happened in Dead Rising and Lost Planet and has happened again. There is a load of screem tearing when I was playing in both cut scenes and regular play! It is highly annoying. However, I did read around and it appears it only occurs when you play in a resolution above 1280x720. I play in 1080p so I experienced it a lot. Screen tearing does not happen as much according to reports if you have it on 720p or below! Anyway enough of that technical issue. The controls are flawed I admit to that but it does add some tension to the game as you have to be more tactical and move about more to get a good shot. Yes it would have been better if you could move and shoot but I guess Capcom left it like this for a reason as it worked in RE4. The AI is dumb as hell. Especially Sheva, I find her shooting at me, punching me, kicking me whenever she can. I have to stop shooting an enemy, move out the way then continue shooting so her bullets count! I have to say 75% of the time she does heal when needed but absolutely sucks at giving ammo. Often have to request it most times. Story so far (not sure how far I have got but I think I have done 7 sections?) is pretty varied and entertaining for the most part. But I will leave that comment for when I have played the game some more. I am however slightly annoyed at the DLC for the online multi-player. Bit too close to the games release date in my opinion meaning it could've been added on the final game or released for free! Anyhow, I look forward to playing some more and I am sure I will enjoy the game more if I played it co-op online.

I've yet to play the game, but having played the demo I felt the same (which you know having listened to the podcast). The gameplay and style of RE5 seems to be leaning towards becoming an action game, which is fine. But the controls are stuck in survival horror mode and it's just ugly. It doesn't work. soniqstylz
Random thought I had for the series: Next RE game for this gen covers the vast majority of the series, from RE:Zero through RE:5 from a different angle - Wesker's. Since he's pretty much super-human, there's an action game, plus you get a completely new side to the story. Since he's superhuman, gives the devs an excuse now to let him be able to move and shoot. Plus you get basically an HD version of all the early RE games, could even include some of them as bonus games on the disc. Give it a name something other than RE6. End of the game, you end up capturing the Redfields in order to perform experiments, setting up for... RE6, on the next-gen, playing as Leon for the SP mode, halfway through freeing Chris and Claire. Once that part is done, you finish the game as Leon, but that opens a second shorter side co-op mode playing as Chris and Claire, where your actions as Leon affect the co-op (similar to RE:Vernonica X). Having not played/finished RE5, not sure if this is possible, but just an idea.
