Are you running at 800 x 600 ?

Question

Are you running at a 800 x 600 screensize ?

I am building a personal website and was interested to see how many people still view at this screensize, I personally view at 1024 x 768.

My new site will be viewable at all screensizes but I was just interested to see how many people still use the 800 x 600 screensize.

Kind regards

Dual Monitor Desktop

2560 x 1024

Laptop

1024 x 768

PocketPC

320 x 240

Don't forget the PDA users! I wish more websites would design content for handheld size screens.

I run 1024x768 on my primary PC (my laptop) and run two monitors on my Desktop (one at 1280x960 and the other at 1024x768) however all the PCs in my college are set to use a resolution of 800x600. (even the Multimedia stations with 21" monitors)

It really isn't hard to make a web site that works in all resolutions. you can check out mine at http://www.btallack.com/ as an example.

Only really OLD blind people would be running at that low of a resolution - is the site for very old BLIND people?  Maybe a retirement home or something?

Oh yeah... I'm a really old blind person.

Used 800x600 for a couple years now. I don't see the point of going any smaller right now. Everything fits nice. Well besides neowin, but thats why those handy things called scroll bars exist.

Until my browser and other programs require that I use more than 800x600 then I'm sticking with it.

look at me I run at 1024000x76800 - I'm so "leet"

Not by choice on one computer 1mb gfx mem only allows up to 800x600 with 16 bit color. If I went to 1024x768 on this pc, it would have to be with 256 colors. Which sucks.

Josh

My main pc is better tho...

Are you serious. You would think computer teachers/admins would be a little smarter then that.

1280x1024, and would go up to 1600x1200 if my lcd supported it :(

lol about school teachers. they are so stupid most of the time. someone really needs to take all their jobs away and give them to the students :o :)

Agree fully.

Sure a higher resolution makes things look better but 800x600 is relaxing for the eyes and specially for ppl who use the PC for lots of hours like myself.

As far as I'm concerned, all webpages should be made only for 800x600. Or at least put some effort into the html etc. to make it resize to fit all screen modes.

A webpage should be the size of a peice of paper, in a matter of speaking, thus it could be printed onto a peice of paper if need be, and be able to fit.

Remember, a webpage is a document, not a television show, lol.

Or do people think the size of printer paper should be updated too, made bigger to match the resolutions of those big @ss monitors?

what? when was the last time anyone printed out a website? come to think of it, i can't remember the last time i printed anything... hmm... but seriously, why the hell shouldn't a webpage be like a tv show? surely sticking rigidly to the "it must conform with paper norms" doctrine is defeating the purpose of why we became digital in the first place?

but anyway... i use 2560x1024 (dual) setup for my main desktop, and 1024x768 for my others. 800x600 just doesn't give me anywhere near enough real estate these days... i'd wear out the alt and tab keys on my keyboard ;o)

really? when i was at uni, all my assignments/coursework/notes etc were available online, and we were discouraged from printing them out. that was assuming you had a computer with a net connection at home, though, so some people *had* to print the ****** out. but i never printed a single thing. i suppose it varies depending on the course/institution....

and anyway, i think i was rambling there for a bit ;) but that doesn't reall matter: for pages like that, yeah sure confine 'em to being basically documents. but for sites i'd like to spend my free time surfing, i want a bit of inovation. not just something i could experience just as well in a book.

I print a lot of web-based content, but usually from a "printer friendly" link. As a developer, the things standing in the way are some peoples desire to stick to "paper" based layouts.
