Flawed
Anyone mentioned "Pi" yet? I tend to label those kinds of films as pseudo intellectual.

Dan~
Inception is very 'intelligent' could even go as far as the matrix?
Twiddle
Lost Highway I love all David Lynch movies. Though maybe not intelligent, but you do have to think and figure out what the hell happened in this movie, and after 2-3 watches you may finally get it. I finally understand it now, in some twisted way.
Buzz99
So no one mentioned Inception... May be you dudes like better Groundhog day....:D
SakuraKira
well, not sure if they are "intelligent" but they make you think at least :) This exactly. Intelligent subject matter should not be confused with intelligent or thought provoking plot. Someone mentioned Cube. While it has some maths, it's basically a psychological survival thriller. It can also be suggested that it applies to movies that are written intelligently. For example, I love anything written by Aaron Sorkin. He treats the audience very well: like adults who can think for themselves and follow along in a busy professional world without having things explained to them, and he manages to throw in some humor along the way. Then there are the mind f--k movies. The end of 2001: A Space Odyssey, or the end of Planet of the Apes (original and 2001 - for different reasons). It all depends on the OPs criteria of "intelligent."
Reacon
Just watched A Beautiful Mind. I saw it several times when I was younger, but now I'm old enough now to fully understand what was happening. Yes, it is beautifully written, and has a very emotional plot. But it goes very deep, too. Intelligent? Yes.
Amine El Mesnaoui
The tree next days is an intelligent movie also, the other ones I have in mind have already been mentionned.

newdude2
im quite surprised at some of these answers...lol, just goes to show how ignorant some people are. some of the answers i laughed at: the godfather the dark knight american history x city of god full metal jacket pulp fiction blow shindlers list sure some of those are very good movies, but not intelligent. i did see a lot of good picks and a few i havnt seen which im looking forward to watching. i was glad to see the zeitgeist "movies" mentioned. and here are my contributions which were not mentioned -back to the future trilogy (even the title is clever) -the bothersome man (subtitles but worth it) -idiocracy
