Most Intelligent movies ever?

Lost Highway

I love all David Lynch movies.

Though maybe not intelligent, but you do have to think and figure out what the hell happened in this movie, and after 2-3 watches you may finally get it. I finally understand it now, in some twisted way.

well, not sure if they are "intelligent" but they make you think at least :)

This exactly. Intelligent subject matter should not be confused with intelligent or thought provoking plot. Someone mentioned Cube. While it has some maths, it's basically a psychological survival thriller.

It can also be suggested that it applies to movies that are written intelligently. For example, I love anything written by Aaron Sorkin. He treats the audience very well: like adults who can think for themselves and follow along in a busy professional world without having things explained to them, and he manages to throw in some humor along the way.

Then there are the mind f--k movies. The end of 2001: A Space Odyssey, or the end of Planet of the Apes (original and 2001 - for different reasons). It all depends on the OPs criteria of "intelligent."

Just watched A Beautiful Mind. I saw it several times when I was younger, but now I'm old enough now to fully understand what was happening.

Yes, it is beautifully written, and has a very emotional plot. But it goes very deep, too.

Intelligent? Yes.

im quite surprised at some of these answers...lol, just goes to show how ignorant some people are.

some of the answers i laughed at:

the godfather

the dark knight

american history x

city of god

full metal jacket

pulp fiction

blow

shindlers list

sure some of those are very good movies, but not intelligent.

i did see a lot of good picks and a few i havnt seen which im looking forward to watching.

i was glad to see the zeitgeist "movies" mentioned.

and here are my contributions which were not mentioned

-back to the future trilogy (even the title is clever)

-the bothersome man (subtitles but worth it)

-idiocracy
