Matrix XII
Brazil, very smart and funny movie. Darn I thought no one was going to say Brazil. What an amazing movie, one of my favourites. :D
Unto Darkness
I'd say Donnie Darko Serious? The plot was far fetched but entertaining nonetheless... +1 A Beautiful Mind. That is one movie you have to see.
+Frank B. Subscriber² Posted October 30, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted October 30, 2008 Fight ClubThe Matrix trilogy Cube 2: Hypercube (never did see the original... :( ) 12 Monkeys The Butterfly Effect Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas What is this Matrix trilogy you speak of? As far as I am concerned there is only one Matrix movie. Any sequels you may have seen are just figments of your imagination. nothuman
Ghost In the Shell Avalon Ghost In The Shell: Innocence 2001 A Space Odyssey And, most recently, The Dark Knight is a really intelligent movie.
Spartan Erik
2001 A Space Odyssey A Clockwork Orange Dr. Strangelove (definitely) Enemy of the State Face Off Fight Club Full Metal Jacket Minority Report One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest Ronin (smart movie that makes an attempt at being intelligent, good nonetheless) Twelve Monkeys That's my list. Depends on your definition of intelligence, I figure any movie that makes you think and actually care about characters' actions/emotions is an intelligent movie. They also have some pretty decent action scenes that aren't overboard, so you will enjoy it. As you can see, a good amount of movies are made by Stanley Kubrick

Eric Veteran Posted October 30, 2008 Veteran Share Posted October 30, 2008 What is this Matrix trilogy you speak of? As far as I am concerned there is only one Matrix movie. Any sequels you may have seen are just figments of your imagination. lol... I've been saying that for years now. :) The first one had an open ending, but definitely not an unfinished story. It was fine standing alone to me and is one of my favorite movies. @Brazil: Yes! Very smart, very dark, very funny.

Dev Null Zen
Wow, I thought seeing Die Hard 4 was hilarious......But anime? Really? That would have to be a whole other list since it is really a completely different medium. Most of the good, intelligent thought provoking stuff is series, not movies. Saint Shiv
i like die hard 4 it was amazing while i liked the 300 mind blowing ! :D really loved it What are intellectually great? Maybe 300 for its war-in-ancient era-esque approach but Die Hard 4?

liang852
The ghost in the shell movies were pretty intelligent - though sometimes it goes into philosophical jargon, and it confuses the hell out of me. >.>
TJenkins
Primer is the most complex, intelligent movie I've ever seen. It's about some guys that accidentally invent time travel. review quote: "anybody who claims to fully understand what's going on in Primer after seeing it just once is either a savant or a liar."
