chrisj1968
kubuntu(KDE) & Ubuntu(Gnome) is kubuntu for newbies like me? is Gnome geared toward power users? i really can't see the difference other than the look of each cosmetically.

chrisj1968
That is the only diference. So basically it's just a matter of look and choice? ok- I like KDE better then.. I seem to get around it alot easier for my old feeble brain lol
markwolfe Veteran Posted November 1, 2008 Veteran Share Posted November 1, 2008 Pretty much, that's it in a nutshell. Ubuntu uses Gnome. Kubuntu uses KDE. Each of those desktops come with their own sets of apps (gedit vs. kate for text editing and so forth) that are built using the appropriate libraries for that Desktop Environment. But there is nothing stopping a Gnome/Ubuntu user from installing and running kate or k3b (excellent burning software). It will just install and run the needed KDE libraries to run that app is all.
