Windows Live Hotmail Wave 3 Gone Public

Recommended Posts

sadly it was switched on my server a few weeks ago :angry:

it's so much slower than the old one and it keeps login me off after a while (with the old one I could keep a tab for like 24hrs without being logged off....cant do it anymore)

I really like it. The thing that kills it is the huge advert, but that's easy to fix on IE.

Open up notepad and copy this into the document

#RadAd_Banner {
	display:none;
margin-top:-90px;
	}

Now save that as hotmail.css

On Internet Explorer go to Tools > Internet Options > Accessibility and then tick 'Format documents using my style sheet' and find your hotmail.css file in the field.

Restart IE and you will no longer have Hotmail ads.

I do prefer this one (especially the pink theme you can get - I just wish they had it in other more 'manly' colours :D). Also they should have allowed for selection of colours as well as themes. Before you could select red, green, etc & keep the Windows Live style. I would like to be able to select these colours & keep the 'flair' you get on the default blue theme.

Secondly, an option to drag out the folder list width like on the last version would be appcreciated & a few UI inconsistencies.

Other than that, though, I really like the new version - the old design was better but it got boring :p

I don't like it. It's really too plain and bland.

Not that this is at all important, but the emots on Google Mail are quite good and the emots in Hotmail are bland.

If I had the option, I'd like to go back to the previous wave.

I like the overall design of the new Windows Live Hotmail, and I'm glad to see that Microsoft have started allowing other browsers to use features such as the reading pane; overall performance seems to have increased as well which is always nice.

I've only been using Hotmail for a little while but is there an option to permanently turn on all Content. Every email is text based because Hotmail automatically hides all images until I click "Attachments, pictures, and links in this message have been blocked for your safety. Show content"

Edit: Now I get this message, come on.

EDIT 2: WTF?! WHy isn't my image uploading to Neowin?!

The new Hotmail is nowhere near as plain as Google Mail (or just about any Google product) is, so I don't know why people are complaining so much (especially Google users). Yes, I think the old design was better, but I got bored of it, quite quick. THis design is a nice change & if they start letting us have different colours, it would be even better.

You do know you can have themes right? I don't think you can do that on Google Mail (or at least not yet) & it's bland anyway. Too bland & boring.

What features does Hotmail lack aswell? They are having Windows Live Messenger functionality built in soon, so you can chat to contacts through Hotmail, without needing to use Windows Live Messenger. They will also be using the new Windows Live feature which shows if a contact is online or not (coloured border round the display pic) - very slick.

Finally, Hotmail also now works properly on all major browsers & there is now no need for two different versions (classic & full) - I hated that there was more than one version.

Hotmail has features such as the reading pane, easier organisation (automatically send email to folders) - there is no need for tags then), & themes. What does the bland, boring, horrible Google Mail have which Hotmail doesn't?

While Gmail does have a dated UI, the sheer speed of Gmail is a win for me. Not to mention the IMAP/POP3 support. When enabling the Google Labs in Gmail, we can have all crazy hacks and mouse gestures working.

The new Hotmail is probably nearly as fast as Gmail now, if not just as fast. Again, I don't know about other features that Gmail has over Hotmail, but I do know I have everything in Hotmail - especially the handing reading pane & Windows Live integration.

The new Windows Live Hotmail interface is quite fast compared to the old version, which seemed quite clunky and overall just slow, but I only use my Hotmail account for things that I sign up for that I don't want going to my personal address at MobileMe.
