This is a quick little poll to know exactly what Neowin wants to see in Shift Linux. After all, we are a part of Neowin! This is the first in a series of short polls about Shift Linux. These questions are just to see how satisfied the community is with what we have. Version 1.0 is being worked on, and we'd love to hear what you have to say.

As always, please don't bash any distro or operating system. If possible, please follow up on your choices. Also, if you have reccomendations, we'd love to hear them, and will incorporate them into a future poll.

Future polls will include an "Installed Software" poll, which will tally up what software should be on the Live CD, a "Hardware" poll asking about hardware support and what we should focus on more, and other polls.

Thanks for your time!

64 bit would be nice whith a compatible mode like windows has in there windows 64 bit os and if thereis not a 64 bit vweaion of the app out you can still have install the x86 version

What sets Shift apart from another distro? I've tried it, and it's just another distro... I want to see something unique besides a different theme/bootscreen/etc between distros

I totally agree

One thing that would really make Shift stand out would be if you fixed the stupid audio mess in GNU/Linux. OSS4 for all applications, out-of-the-box. No other distro does this, and it's IMO really needed.

Thanks for the notes/votes. As you might know, Barney stepped down, but development will continue with simon360 as leader, and these polls do help us out greatly.

To sum it up: Gnome, 64-bit option, with a specific purpose (not a rebrand). Sounds good! Deniseweird, PM me about OSS4 please!

How about this? Use Fluxbox and other minimalist, barebones options as the default, even as the only included with a download manager for installing and using other WMs and components, that will make Shift a very resource efficient beast out of the box. A Linux distro with a "simplification" philosophy would be awesome and will find many adepts. Or if you really want to keep going with Gnome how about a highly customized and cleaned Gnome? There are already many distros filled with with default components, I would love to see one with customized or tweaked ones.

Fluxbox...

Not sure how many other people would be happy to boot into flux, tho.
