dt
Hi everyone, Quick question here. I'm wondering if people using Ubuntu on laptops have noticed a significant battery life improvement on 8.10 versus 8.04 Hardy. I ended up removing Ubuntu b/c I was getting notably superior battery life on Vista (like, an hour longer) and I wonder if it's worth it to revisit Ubuntu with Intrepid. :) Thanks! afusion
If I were you give Kubuntu a shot, I be getting crazy speeds w/ less consumed resources from the KDE 4.1 variant
Elv13
Wait for 9.04, it is on the roadmap to improve battery life and boot speed.
Kommode
I've notice a slight increase on my battery life on my Acer Aspire 3680 when upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10. Nothing really to brag about but I probably would not have noticed it without the power management charts and logs.
BilliShere
no the battery life is bad in intrepid...but i dunno how much compared to hardy heron.. i couldnt install it in on my laptop.. but yes... i have a 6 cell battery and still get a pathetic 2 hours instead of 4 hours of battery life...Ive tried powertop (whos tweaks dont stick) keep getting high number of wakeups from idle, less watts website is very helpful but many of the tweaks may work but im not sure if they stick permanently.. disablign compiz gives like .2 watts less voltage use... which isnt much honestly... my voltage usage should be around 5 rather than 11.5 which is pretty sad...however there is a way to reduce the power usage and im going to find it... i dont care how much crap i gotta go through..i just cant use windows vista or windows 7 for that sake (they have really crap integration of 32 bit apps in 64 bit environment...not to mention print to onenote driver doesnt work in 64 bit windows) So Im sticking to ubuntu and gonna build a kernel from ground up...see how much battery power i can save...there is a way and i will find it.
