tym
Have run across a place I like to watch movies. Problem is they will not play in ubuntu. Normally you need dvix installed to watch the movies. Not sure if k lite is what I need or something else?? While you are not downloading any thing illegal, You are simply watching the movie from the website its self, some may consider the website questionable. Hope someone can and will help? sanctified Veteran Posted November 16, 2008 Veteran Share Posted November 16, 2008 try vlc player
tym
try vlc player Its a web based player that plays the movies. You don't download anything. I did see another thread mention the website, So I am guessing its ok fine?? If not please accept my apologies. I did try the fix with mplayer for gnome. Installed reboot and still nothing. I could have something configured wrong or I need another plugin for firefox maybe? http://movielab.tv/ Edited November 16, 2008 by tym
Lechio
You have that firefox plugin installed right? In Xine, Gxine, (...) it's possible to use the video codecs you have from a Windows installation by configuring the "path to win32 codecs" in the players configuration. tym
Not sure which plugin I need for firefox and this one?
Lechio
Like it was suggested by sanctified, VLC is a good media player. There is a plugin for web browsers that is based on VLC, to install it just type: sudo apt-get install mozilla-plugin-vlc
tym
Tried the vlc plugin for firefox. Restarted firefox. Still same problem Video will not play. Tried several just to make sure. Think the totum browser player is trying to play it instead of vlc.
Lechio
If the totem plugin was installed then there was no need to install VLC. Remove one of those. Totem can use the xine libs and the win32 codecs.
Elv13
check about:plugins in the firefox addressbar, it will list availible plugins, llok for one for your media type, if you dont find it, here is your problem. If you do, install gstreamer-plugins-ugly, bad and good from synaptic, then it will work with totem.
tym
all the plug ins seem to works fine. So it looks like totum may be the issue. I am gonna un install that for right now see how well vlc does. Well that was the problem. I had for whatever reason to many players installed. I removed vlc and totuem now mplayer is trying to play it. And Goodness its SLOOOWWWWWWw. So the 64 dollar question which seems to work the best in ubuntu. Should I go with Vlc, Totum or Mplayer. Looks like mplayer is not a good choice SUPER SLOW!! So the question I guess now changes, which is the best and most usable for the Internet. And embeded dvix movies. I will just go with that and remove the others. Edited November 16, 2008 by tym

ehlo
Did you try enabling multiverse etc and then installing gstreamer0.10-plugins-good/bad/ugly before removing totem? Ubuntu doesn't ship with full codec support in totem by default for legal reasons
