anyone who does over 512 better be doing some major video editing or they're just another retard who likes to brag about large memory amounts.. otherwise they're a sick ****** who should be giving to starving people in africa. so if you have 1gb or 2gb of memory for fun.. remember you're just a big nerd who needs a life because noone on the internet cares how much memory you bought.. I spent my money on intelligent things like the 4 ATV's i have for quading in the rocky mountains.

512 RDRAM PC1066 here and 384 SDRAM PC133 on my other (older) PC... I think 512 is acceptable, although more would help me in my 3d modeling stuff etc...

for wordprocessing / general net use 128 is enough... heh

My pc came with only 128mb, but I tried to upgrade it to 1gb, but found out it could only hold 512mb, so here I am... Stuck with only 512mb.

When I build my own computer, I'll get a better system.

i've got 1.5gb in my comp... only reason i don't have 2gb is cuz my motherboard only supports

ds ds ss

and they haven't made a 512 as ss yet unless it's something new... so right now i've got a 1gb stick and a 512mb stick and as soon as i can i'm buyin another 512mb stick when it becomes ss

btw ds means double-sided and ss means single-sided... just in case you didn't know... :D

as to yzero's comment...

don't worry i do web design and graphic editing and a little bit of sound and video editing along with my gaming so it's put to good use ;)

I do web design and graphic editing, and I'm on a P3-667 with 256 megs of RAM. I'm not saying everything is LIGHTNING FAST, but if it would be slow, I would upgrade my computer. I haven't upgraded it, so it's not slow.

I also do some sound editing every now and then, for personnal need, and my computer isn't hogged down for that task.

As for video editing, I agree that it benefits from having lots of RAM, but do you *really* do that as often as your saying?

And looking at your signature, you only used some QuakeIII font and applied some EyeCandy filter, that's not what I call "advanced" graphic editing...

na. My dad only has 256 on his XP (with a duron 900) and it runs just fine... but of course all he does is use Word and IE and sometimes Adobe Pagemaker. My little brother plays Medal of Honor and uses Photoshop on a smalls scale but not much more.

I have 512 in mine and will be using 1gb of Corsair (2x512) PC3200 this fall with my new system.

I run 512 and the only reason that I would think about running more is when I am doing documentation in Adobe Photoshop. When you get an image 80 - 90 layers deep you definitely start eating into the memory :pinch:

512 is your answer man, for at least another year you'll be good with that amount.

I've currently got 512mb in my box but I'd like to upgrade to 1Gb (or more???), as I'm currently running SQL Server 2000, Oracle 9 (severely cut down, as Oracle is a memory hog), Visual Studio .NET and Opera 7 and memory can get a bit short...

I might upgrade my motherboard as well, as it's currently running Rambus (ugh) and DDR is so much cheaper and more plentiful. A Supermicro X5DAE would do nicely... :)

Yes, I'm a Xeon man... :D

I would prefer as much as I could possibly get, but i dont think you need much more then, 1 gig, it's an even number and it starts getting expensive after that.. I got 1gig ddr

I've just 192 mb in my laptop. But it's enough, although I always can use a bit more... However 192 mb is the maximum for my laptop
