Zickar
I've just burnt the Xubuntu image into a CD two days ago and tried booting my system from the Live CD ... Ofcourse it worked out as a charm and I used the first option which was something like giving it a try without actually installing it ... I did just that and everything went as a charm I was actually afraid it will be harder than this but TBH the Xubuntu interface is very easy to learn and get used, long story short I tried to connect to the internet but that's where thing got messy ... How do you do that in Xubuntu ?? I went as the help file said : System > Network but I'm not really sure where to go from there To put things into perspective , I've always been afraid of setting up a connection on a new machine and I'm not really sure if this installation will need a new setup or not since its on the same PC but like I said I'm a complete ignorant when it comes to connecting to the internet for thr first time , I have a Connection on my PC now on the XP by the way, I think its a wireless connection but I'm in Lebanon (Middle East) so we have local service providers and not big companies like AT&T and such so don't expect some of the things that apply at the states for example to apply here .. Hope I made myself clear enough and hope any of you will actually help me out on this cause this is the biggest bug at the moment that is keeping me from doing the switch
markwolfe Veteran Posted November 18, 2008 Veteran Share Posted November 18, 2008 Sounds like you are using a wireless connection. Can you connect on a wired connection and verify it works there. Once you have any sort of net access, it will be easier to download and install whatever is needed to get your wireless working.

markwolfe Veteran Posted November 18, 2008 Veteran Share Posted November 18, 2008 I have only worked with regular wired ethernet, and have no idea where to start for wireless, other than a vague notion that you need to identify your chipset. Maybe this link will help?: http://beginlinux.com/desktop_training/ubu...-wireless-setup
Elv13
Start nm-applet (it is by default normally). It will appear int he system tray. Click on it, select your network and you are done. If it is not in the list, then give me the result of the "sudo lspci" command in a terminal.

All I know is that the ISP told me that its a wireless connection and when I was fiddling aroung the other day to find my IP adress I read in the type of connection that its a point to point connection ...
