NienorGT
On Vista UXThemes are more hard to theme, there's no much themes, and they are always not to far from the actual Aero. WB on the other hand still a very strong software. I have plenty of features. If you are a bit loss, there a strong community and official support in the background of WB. Skulltrail-old
WindowBlinds is the best. Features are endless and it is a lot easier to make than a casual VS. (assuming you have the proper software)
ArmedMonkey
In my experience, WB is not always stable, and overall not worth it in the way of practical features. As a fact, WB uses more resources. Fact: WB has more diverse skins, but that doesn't mean all of them are USABLE. I concur that the default winstyles tend to be aerocentric, but that's only one disadvantage
Panda X
A free method would be to use themes made with Vista Style Builder. Though since it's still new it's hard to find themes made with it.
Island Dog
As a fact, WB uses more resources. Maybe a few years ago, but that is not the case in Windows Vista. WindowBlinds doesn't affect your system performance, and in many cases is faster than the default Windows engine. To the OP: WindowBlinds is a great choice if you want the flexibility and additional features like adjustable transparency/blur, color changing on the fly, etc. http://www.windowblinds.net There is a free trial available, I recommend giving that a try. :)

Do you know how this is made possible?

Running WindowBlinds alone, is resources consumed, because you're running a program, and judging from Windowblinds history from previous OS's, I doubt windowblinds doesn't affect system performance in vista. No, he's right. WindowBlinds doesn't affect system performance anymore. The older versions did, but they have long since fixed that. The only problem with WindowBlinds and UXTheme skins in general is that the skinner community kind of died out a few years back. Very few people are gung-ho for pumping out really good skins anymore. Too time consuming and hard work for just a hobby.

Yes, but you're assuming that the Windows Themes service somehow does not use any resources because it's bundled with the OS. Windowblinds can be run instead of the Themes service, rather than alongside it. Numerous previous tests have shown that Windowblinds uses that same if not less resources than the Themes service. To the OP: Essentially, you have a lot more control over how things look if you use Windowblinds, and the skins are in general much more diverse. The ONLY upside (though, not a small one) to the UXTheme patch is that it's free. It's like using Word vs. Notepad or Photoshop vs. Paint... only, Windowblinds isn't nearly as expensive.
