Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted November 24, 2008 Global Moderator Share Posted November 24, 2008 This is a list of all my installed add-ons. Usually I can see the crash coming, when the browser says "not responding". After the recovery, even the "report crash" dialog box will launch firefox again, and instantly crash me. I tried uninstalling everything, deleted cooking, cache, the whole lot, but it still crashes. Even on my laptop :|
Blaine
Might run it in safe mode just to make sure it is one of the extensions and not firefox itself.

sundayx Veteran Posted November 24, 2008 Veteran Share Posted November 24, 2008 I guess find out how you can get it to crash, and test out each extension and find the one that's causing the problem.

Blaine
It says something in there about the dictoinary addon. Could it be that one?
capr
i am in the same boat. reinstalled firefox a few times and it still randomly crashes when i am watching a video or just typing something on neowin. i think it's just unstable.
rpgfan
Create a fresh profile and see if you still get it to crash. If you disabled the Profile Manager, you can start it from the Run dialog: firefox -ProfileManager Technically safe-mode should do pretty much the same thing, but your profile could also be messed up, which safe-mode wouldn't affect. It's quite possibly a bug in Firefox 3.0.4. I've had some instability as well.
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted November 24, 2008 Veteran Share Posted November 24, 2008 What's the URL of the top most crash listed in about:crashes? Also, Adblock is outdated (unless you mean Adblock Plus) and Filterset.G causes problems.
Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted November 24, 2008 Author Global Moderator Share Posted November 24, 2008 I just got frustrated and removed firefox, deleted all folders called firefox, and profiles. Now I am doing a fresh clean install, and see how this plays out.
rpgfan
Did you also remove all references in the registry? j/k That usually doesn't matter. Plus, a lot of things seem to use Gecko for various reasons, so removing everything called "Mozilla" might harm some installed apps. In other words, be careful what you delete. ^_^

Haven't had a lot of time to play around with firefox yet, but so far everything is running smooth

xXys0seriousXx
Same exact problem here. I could have just been browsing Neowin (nothing flashy oriented, etc) and out of nowhere I get the "We are sorry Firefox must close down" pop up. Happens somewhat frequently. Very annoying. redvamp128
I am using Linux (Ubuntu) and it used to do that to me when I installed flash version 10-- So I still had the residual configuration of 9 and used that to restore it back.. Seems as if to me it is a Flash Issue. You could also try this version of Fire Fox and see if it still occurs.. Portable Applications Of Firefox Which runs just in the directory that it is unzipped to-- Though it does recommend not to use the auto update feature. http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable That would be my choice if you think something is wrong with the install or safe mode does not work.
