Bringing back the "Team"

Recommended Posts

As we're refreshing the team, would it be a good idea to give the shift team a clear identity - i.e. with the custom group (don't have to have a badge - I think the group still exists), custom sigs, and the "Shift" part added to the signatures of members of the team who currently have a badge?

Just thought it might be more of an incentive :p.

Also, while I'm on the ideas front - would it be a good idea to put a sticky in the main area with team members and their estimated roles - so that people know who to contact?

I'm not completely sure how I want to go about the "team". Obviously there's those of us who have been helping out already, who are already here. But the new people... do we want to let them straight in here? We've had some people come in here who have, honestly, never done a thing.

I'd like to let people prove themselves, but this isn't my area of expertise. Maybe the badges would be a good idea, with access to this forum (but I think an "elite" forum of sorts might be a good idea too, where we can discuss who should stay and who should go).

The credits page on the Shift website serves much of the purpose you're talking about, but I think a thread in the forum would be nice as well. I've cleaned up the sticky posts, so we have some extra room now.

Also, one little thing: I may be the project manager, but that doesn't mean anything. This is a team, and if any of you look up to me, we're not sticking to the open source ideology imo. Decisions aren't going to be made by me, decisions will be made by us. Barney ran the distro much like this, I'll run it that way too. But don't be afraid to call out terrible ideas. I'm a forgiving person, as are most of the people here, so we should be completely open. For the better of the distro.

Probably will encourage them to give their feedback.

As for the people wanting to join...I agree, have them prove themselves. Just as Neowin has MVCs, Shift can make contributors into members and so on and so forth.
