The second half was quite flawed with glaring plot holes that completely ruin the whole setup by the first half and made me remember how much I dislike Holland. He is the Misato (Neon Genesis Evangelion) of Eureka Seven.

The only redeemable factors of the movie was seeing Eureka and Renton together, the amazing animation and the amazing soundtrack. One of the best romance sub plots for an action anime and one of the best soundtracks for an anime series ever.

Agreed, really disliked Holland in this movie as well. Though I love the soundtrack, SUPERCAR FTW (Y)

Berserk87 - Mal

I'm off tomorrow so I'm trying to find a good movie to watch tonight.

The biggest requirement is that its a standalone movie, as in I don't have to watch anything before it to really enjoy the movie.

Another Ghibli film or Lupin III special, particularly Episode 0 'First Contact'.

Currently watching the first two episodes of Yukikaze. Simply stunning CGI. Think Appleseed meets Sky Crawlers. Amazing. (forget the characters and weird story)

'The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya' is on my plan to watch list, and I've heard a LOT about it, but I need to watch 2 or 3 seasons of the series first...which isn't going to happen in one day.

Here's a general movie guide:

If you're willing to watch a movie that requires the brain to be turned on, watch Ghost in the Shell 2.0 and Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence back to back in HD.

If you're looking for a psychedelic mind trip, then watch Tekkon Kinkreet.

If you just blood, watch Ninja Scroll and Vampire D: Bloodlust.

If you want fairy tales, watch Howl's Moving Castle.

If you want female assassins, then any of the Kara no Kyoukai movies.

If you want CGI, then watch Appleseed and its sequel.

If you want a cop suspense thriller/sci-fi, then watch Patlabor 1 & 2 and Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade.

If you want a light hearted, feel good romance, then Ocean Waves.

If you want dystopian sci-fi that revolutionized how anime is animated and produced, then watch Akira.

If you like watching sports anime and want to feel the thrill, then watch Nasu: Summer of Audalusia.

If you just want normal characters with interesting settings, then watch Millennium Actress and Tokyo Godfathers.

If you want a Ghibli movie, then check out my guide.

My recommendation: Ghost in the Shell Ghost in the Shell Ghost in the Shell Ghost in the Shell Ghost in the Shell... Did I mention Ghost in the Shell?

Bonus:

Liked Cowboy Bebop? Loved it? Want moar?!?

Watch Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door.

I dislike Holland in general. He ruins the whole flow of the anime series and presumes roles that don't fit his personality. He needs to be put in his place for being such a man child. It made the anime series get under my skin in the same way in Neon Genesis Evangelion when Misato did something outrageous in the last few episodes.

I second your Lupin recommendations.

Also there isn't a decent 'viewable' sub on the internet it seems. And yeh it seems like people can't seem to get enough of it.

I watched one of the ghost in the shell movies a while ago, but I don't remember which one it was, and I was a little thrown off because I didn't know any of the characters or backstorys.

The first one is a stand alone movie that was released in 1995 before any TV series adaptation.

@Masked Forever: Why did you recommend him Ghost In The Shell 2.0? You should have recommended him the original Ghost In The Shell :p

You'll be surprised at how many people refuse to watch the 1995 version simply because it's too "old".

I didn't mind him in the series as he had somewhat of a purpose but in the movie, he's such a whiny emo bitch

Just about to watch Bleach 270... anyone seen it yet?

Learn to read :p

That's their loss if you ask me :p

To me, Holland was a great character in the series. The way he would constantly push Renton to do what he's supposed to do. He was like this kind of father figure to Renton which he seemed to need throughout the series. In the film he was somewhat of a douch trying to get what he wanted. Nonetheless, I liked his character in both stories.

Here another review sans a numerical rating:

Now and Then, Here and There

78395135.jpg

Status: Finished

The plot: ?Now and Then, Here and There follows a young boy named Shuzo "Shu" Matsutani who, in an attempt to save an unknown girl, is transported to another world which is possibly the Earth in the far future. The world is desolate and militarized, and water is a scarce commodity.?

This one is extremely depressing anime(I don?t know how I end up watching these :( ). Now, that?s not a bad thing; it tries to be depressing, and it succeeds at it. If you have any emotion in you, this will get to you.

From what I recall, the art was very nice in this one. But I watched it over a year ago, so don?t take my word on that.

This anime has a very simple premise wrapped in a sci-fi coating: the horrors of war. There?s some sci-fi aspects to it and, if you?re a sci-fi buff, you might get you fill from that.

I highly recommend this one, but I?d have something happy/comical to watch after it.

@Masked Forever: I've started watching season 1 last week. I'm really enjoying the series so far :D

Also, does anyone know which anime are show at the bottom right and the one above that in this image:

@Capric0rn

Darker than Black first season was alright. Second was just fan service.

Second last on the right column is Monster, an amazing cop thriller mystery anime.

Thanks, I already thought it looked familiar. It's in my "Plan to watch list" and has been for quite some time now :p

    • I switched to AdGuard for this very reason. All my uBlock filters and user scripts ported over with no issues.
    • This is a hot take, but I only use "New" Outlook for 1 reason, the "My Day" side bar that shows your tasks and Calendar on "New" Outlook allows you to view shared calendars and not just your personal calendar. On "Classic" Outlook it only allows your personal Calendar. For my job, we have a group shared Calendar that shows appointments and scheduled tasks for the team and we don't really use our personal calendars.
    • Opera for Android gets redesigned home page with FIFA World Cup tracker by Taras Buria FIFA World Cup 2026 is kicking off in the United States later this week, and Opera, a popular cross-platform browser, is making it easier to track matches on mobile. Today, Opera announced a redesigned home page for its Android browser. The new home page is now "more immersive" with easier access to common browser features. Users can now customize Speed Dial icons (round, square, or squircle), enjoy a new weather widget with real-time conditions, and open AI Mode or a private session with a single tap. Additionally, the browser now has a built-in football tracker, allowing you to follow your favorite team without using dedicated apps. The tracker displays live scores, notifications, and statistics in a dedicated football hub. You can also check out line-ups, match events, and more. Opera surveyed its users, and 38% of responders said they plan to follow the FIFA World Cup 2026 in a browser. The tournament starts on June 11 and ends on July 19, 2026. "By providing football fans with instant access to live scores alongside a more considered design, we’re ensuring they are never more than a tap away from the action, even when they can't watch live," said Tim Lesnik, Product Manager at Opera Mobile. For Opera users in the United States, Opera runs a contest, offering them a chance to win tickets to a match in Miami in July, Android smartphones, PlayStation 5 consoles, smart TVs, and Amazon Vouchers. Users can participate by posting on social media with the #OperaFandom hashtag from June 12 or by signing up on the official Opera website. Opera will announce winners on July 3. You can download Opera for Android from the Google Play Store using this link.
    • That definitely doesn’t match my experience with using Outlook. I use the new Outlook with a local account, connected to a email account, that absolutely isn’t connected to a Microsoft account without an issue.   I used Thunderbird/Firebird once, lost some very precious emails and memories, because of the way it stored emails. Swore I would never use it again, it technically wasn’t the fault of Thunderbird, but an extension but the underlying reason it failed was due to the message format.
