can i change to gnome if i picked KDE on the install?

I don't know the specific procedure, but all you need to do is install Gnome using your package manager of choice.

Also, you'll need to change the default manager, but I've no idea how that works. On some distributions I've used you can choose at the login screen, but I don't know about Suse.

I'm not sure with KDE, I changed Gnome to XFCE. You should be able to go to YaST under system utilities and choose software management. If you click on Gnome Desktop on the left hand side, you should be able to select the packages to install the full desktop. After it installs, logout and from the login screen choose the Gnome desktop as the new session.
