Kondrath
I've got an odd problem with my 640gb WD external hard drive. I've got about 500 gigs free, but whenever I try and transfer an ISO file larger than 4 gigs, I get an error saying that there is not enough space left on my drive. However, I can easily transfer folders with other various files totaling in much more than 4gigs. Any idea what in the world is going on? Thanks... gdodson
I'm going to guess that your external drive is formatted as FAT32 which will not support files over 4GB in size. Reformat it as NTFS for Windows or HFS+ for Mac.
StealMySoda
As above, your probably formatted as FAT32. XP: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307881 Vista: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Convert-a-F...sta-51792.shtml It's fairly safe, I did it no problem on my Passport, but if you have anything REALLY important I'd back it up first. If you are worried, just use something like 7zip and 'tar' the iso into 2 separate files. Good luck.
Mindovermaster Moderator Posted November 27, 2008 Moderator Share Posted November 27, 2008 or burn it to a cd/dvd?
Kondrath
Ahh, I see. I didn't realize FAT32 didn't accept files over 4gb. That's a weird "feature"... Haha. Thanks for the info. Guess I'm gonna' have to somehow backup my external so I can format it.
jingarelho
you can use partition magic and theres no need to format.
Roger H. Veteran Posted November 27, 2008 Veteran Share Posted November 27, 2008 actually you should just be able to just open a command prompt and do something like convert NTFS: X: or something. It's fairly easy and takes about 2 minutes with no data loss. Actually it was pointed out above. To convert the E drive for example: convert e: /fs:ntfs
Kondrath
Thanks a lot everyone. Successfully converted to NTFS and got all my files over to it.
