Simon Veteran Posted November 27, 2008 Veteran Share Posted November 27, 2008 We have the announcement of us moving to Arch out there now, and an exciting base of users who are eager to see what we can come up with. So now we go for the hard part of actually following through on our promises. I have a few ideas kicking around in the back of my head, which I will get out in the coming days. We also have quite a few coders kicking around in our thread asking for help, most of which have come on since we announced our Arch move. I think we've ignited a flame inside those who are more technically oriented, and thus driven towards the "challenge" of using Arch. We are in a very good position right now, and if we don't take advantage of it, the enthusiasm will die down very quickly. At the same time, we will need to have the distro ready before we release it. In the past, we've had a habit of making something over the weekend and releasing it as the next version. Yeah, Mike and I knew what we were doing when we managed to do 0.6 so quickly, but looking back on it, we need to be honest with ourselves... it wasn't anything amazing. It showed a great level from teamwork, as has the job everyone has done since then, but the biggest problem with Ubuntu is that the hard stuff is done for us. Not only that, but it's not necessarily done well, but when something is already there, there's a human instinct to leave it in the hands of the people who maintain it. I'm totally ranting here, so I'll get back to my point. The work we've done has been a great show of teamwork, and an impressive feat, but we're doing the long term planning right now. So we'll use this thread to lay out a "blueprint" of sorts for the future. We also need to sort through the thread of people who want to help and pick some people out for programming. Brian M. Veteran Posted November 28, 2008 Veteran Share Posted November 28, 2008 Theoretically, if we get them to sign into the project management system (if we decide to use it), we can manage them from there (we'd just move any we want into the shift group there). I think we need a private IRC meeting to discuss what we plan to do next.

Simon Veteran Posted December 6, 2008 Author Veteran Share Posted December 6, 2008 Mike's been fiddling with the Arch ISO while I study for exams. There've been a few small discussions in #shiftlinux too.

Simon Veteran Posted December 30, 2008 Author Veteran Share Posted December 30, 2008 CrimsonRedMk, as the one who's been developing everything, what's the next logical step? I want to tell people we're doing something, so a status update in the forum or on the front page will be coming up. Might as well make it a monthly thing. CrimsonRedMk Member Posted January 3, 2009 Member Share Posted January 3, 2009 Huh? :p Are we still doing this? Next step is to pick some apps and make them and release the ISO. Make a theme, pick and make wallpapers and a bootscreen. I'm done with the OS part of it, get the others to do the above.

Jamushroom Veteran Posted January 3, 2009 Veteran Share Posted January 3, 2009 Well, if you guys still want to use my theme, it's going to take awhile since I don't have a good set of buttons at the moment. I also have no ideas for a new set of buttons right now. All the things that I want to do with the buttons either have already been done, or just don't look good. So I understand if you guys don't want to use it anymore :)
