Glados
It looks like the first Jasper motherboards (which should have the new 65nm GPU) are now out in the wild! Both are Arcade SKUs made 10-23-2008 Lot #0843X by Team FDOU. The new power supply is now 150W (25W less than those used with Falcon boards) and the plug has of course been changed so u can't plugin this PSU into an older motherboard. Other unannounced change ... the onboard flash chip has grown from 16MB to 256MB. Microsoft included internal memory storage, so the Arcade SKU now ships without (external) Memory Unit and the new NXE dash will install fully on the flashchip. But the memory can also be used to store gamesave data, XBLA games, videos or whatever ... u can use it asif it was a 256MB Memory Unit. The motherboard design didn't change much ... besides the bigger flash and what's probably the new 65nm GPU, we also see a new south bridge ... the rest (videochip, CPU, heatsinks, general board layout, ...) seems pretty much similar to falcon boards. Argote
Nice, when will we be seeing these in shelves?
NoLiMiT06
Umm if it's in the wild they are already on shelves. What gives with the plastic power cord??
+Mystic MVC Posted November 28, 2008 MVC Share Posted November 28, 2008 Umm if it's in the wild they are already on shelves. What gives with the plastic power cord?? I noticed that as well. I thought they all had metal ends on them now?

How can we make sure we get a Jasper one, I was planning to buy another 360 this winter (and it'll probably be an arcade unit).
NoLiMiT06
10-23-2008(Manuf. Date) Lot #0843X by Team FDOU Look for this on the console or box
NienorGT
Is the new CPU could FINALLY end the damn RRoD sagas?
RAID 0
Is the new CPU could FINALLY end the damn RRoD sagas? Less power less heat...maybe.

HawkMan
Is the new CPU could FINALLY end the damn RRoD sagas? yes, a year and a half ago. Jasper is just power, heat, noise reduction. And I'm pretty sue my elite powercord plug is all plastic, granted I didn't really look at it in detaile, I just hooked it up :p but it'salso relatively new. NoLiMiT06
I am thinking about getting a new one though even though there is not a damn thing wrong with my current one. But hey I want a 60gb hd why new get a new console and new warranty :p
George P Global Moderator Posted November 28, 2008 Global Moderator Share Posted November 28, 2008 The increase in the internal flash to 256MB is a nice touch, nothing was said about that move, but since the NXE needs 128MB to install I suppose we should've seen it coming. With the new PSU being 25Watts less than the older ones it looks like everything has moved to 65nm now, unlike before when it was just the CPU. The big question here is if they've worked on the DVD drive, THAT's what makes all the noise, not the internal fans actually. Those are about at the same level my old PS2 was at really. Anyways, looking good, maybe MS will shock everyone next time and actually make a slim 360? I think the next hardware refresh will put the CPU and GPU together on the same chip (probably 55nm or maybe they'll go all the way to 45nm). George P Global Moderator Posted November 28, 2008 Global Moderator Share Posted November 28, 2008 the next one would be 45nm both cpu and gpu in the same package/chip , codename "vanhalla" late '09but that just a rumor Yeah, that's what I remember reading also. If they can pull that off, then it reduces heat plus the need to have that many heatsinks spread around. After that it's like a domino effect, smaller heatsinks, less fans, more room (add in a slot type DVD drive?) and you've made up enough room to where you can mess with the size. Or another option is if you have enough room inside you can move the PSU back in. Only time will tell what they'll do, but short of a new SKU and price cuts, hardware redesigns like a slim is how Sony and Nintendo keep milking money off of users, don't see why MS shouldn't start if they can as well. Ayepecks
It should. Hopefully the expanded internal memory is used for game updates. I don't like having to update so often.
Glados
As far as im concerned , with the longer life ( hopefully ) & competitive pricing the new box 360 does provide very good value
Smigit
Hopefully these come to the 60GB models as well. Not just the Arcade. Yeah they will. It's cheaper to produce the one motherboard similar to how HDMI found its way onto cheaper consoles. Also they may as well use their most reliable model across the board. George P Global Moderator Posted November 30, 2008 Global Moderator Share Posted November 30, 2008 There's no doubt it'll come to the other models as well. MS only uses one board for all SKUs. They're just getting it out to Arcades first cuz I figure that's the ones they make less of and ran out of older stock on those first. Once the Pre and Elite stock starts to run out we'll start to see them with this. We could very well see many the closer we come to the holidays. Sales have picked up.
