KeeperOfThePizza
I did a clean install of ubuntu, Then I installed Ubuntu's graphic driver for my Ati X1950pro after that rebooted.. then I noticed little red dots when i set the wallpaper to just a solid black color.. also It locks up for a second and then its fine. What other drivers can I use? Should I use Ubuntu 8.0.4LTS since its been out longer?

Make sure that the proprietary video drivers are deactivated.
Elv13
Bad idea. Ubuntu 8.10 use a specially build ATI driver. It is a beta of 9.02 tagged with 8.10. Actual driver will fail to work with xserver 1.5 / xorg 7.3.

Foub
What is your fglrx version and X version? Whatever was the most recent. I didn't do anything special beforehand.
ViperAFK
I just used the driver from the repos for my 2600 mobility and it works flawlessly (besides vsync not working with compiz, but I get that with nvidia too so I think it's a compiz problem) It's odd, you'd think a slightly older mainstream desktop card would be better supported.
