nero78
I think that the vista borders as HUGE! So huge that it takes up precious space on my desktop. I hate the big borders. I know i can set it lower than 4 i size, but then it just looks stupid. Is there another alternative? I love the way from MacOSX with no borders at all! Typhoeus
And I thought the border's size is negligible on dual 24 inches display.

Malskazz
How on earth can that annoy you? Anyway.. Try editing the stream_850 in your msstyle if it really bothers you that much
-KJ
Yeah, I really came to notice the large border padding when using it on my notebook. I suppose they are there for usability (harder to miss it when resizing), but I don't remember XP having that.

+Frank B. Subscriber² Posted November 30, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted November 30, 2008 Note the 'smudgy' artefact in the top left corner of the window. It was one of the small things which bothered me about Vista. I was in the same boat as the OP while using Vista - the default border padding is too much. Mercellus
For the record, I find the borders are too thick by default as well, and that artifact is annoying when you're using a notebook (which does not have a high 1920x1200 resolution for example). nero78
The artifact annoys the hell out of me. And the window looks wrong when the padding is set to 0 :( I'd love to have it the way MACOS have. No border at all. But i dont find any nice looking themes for windowblinds. All are to bloated and full of apple logos.

If it's any consolation to you, I didn't ditch Vista and go back to XP before switching to a Mac because of said artefact.
HawkMan
anyway I don't get that artifact on my MEdiaCenter, and I even double checked as I was using the magnifier... on the laptop I use a slightly modified theme for a flashier taskbar anyway so ... :p
nero78
Well... Then i have to buy a fully locked and overpriced macintosh. I dont want that... It's enough that i have an iPhone ;) I've been looking at the hackintosh project, but far to unstable for my taste. Maybe a good macos theme for windowsblinds?? Brian M. Veteran Posted November 30, 2008 Veteran Share Posted November 30, 2008 Why does that bother you? Can't even notice it really unless you zoom in the way you did. That resolution do you have your monitor set on? Looks fine on mine. Smooth and pretty :p I'm not a Vista user, so I haven't spent a great amount of time looking at it, however, I can quite clearly see what Mephistopheles is talking about in the above screenshot (at 1280*800 on 13"). Harreh
Yeah it really is noticable and border-less windows would certainly be quite nice.
Denis W. Veteran Posted November 30, 2008 Veteran Share Posted November 30, 2008 I clearly see it as well, be it my 12.1" or 17" screens. As for the padding size, it doesn't bother me that much. I could see someone complaining about Vista's excessive padding on dialogue boxes and Aero Wizards though (but not me though, I like it :p). As for why it's not 0 pixels like OS X: simple. They only have one corner to resize windows with. We have four corners and sides.

vraev
I gotta agree. I don't have a mac but I use macs often at work. I love the mac's window frame where the border is almost non existant. Windows vista just has a huuuge border. The aero interface was cool for over a year...but now its kinda getting old on me.
