New 22" LCD, looking for nice wallpapers and screen savers

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I purchased myself a nice 22" LCD screen, and now I'm definitely looking to improve the visual styles I have on Windows. Right now I'm content with the theme I have... fond of it actually, and I know you guys frequently posts themes here. My concerns are wallpapers and screen savers. I already search on Google Images for wall papers, but they have some regular sizes. I'm presently running 1680x1050, a widescreen resolution.

1) Where do you guys find widescreen images? There was a website I just thought about trying, however I forgot the name of it! Where all users create their own images and drawings and host them up there... ugh!

2) What do you guys do about screen savers? I have 2 on my PC that I like right now, but again am looking for various or high quality screen savers. Something that at least my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro video card can run.

Thanks!

I get all my wallpapers from

http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper_beta/downloads/date/any/

And i think you may be talking about deviant art

http://www.deviantart.com/

I thought the purpose of screen savers was to prevent burning in on crt monitors and that they are just a waste on lcd monitors

I dont think you can "burn in" on a CRT. Ive left my Oldest(1st) CRT on for days and weeks at end without a screensaver, it never burned in, also ive never heard of that.

I know it happens with plasmas and older lcds.

Maybe I am using the wrong term, but I am pretty sure they can get to a point where an image is "burned" into the screen, where you can just barely see it.

On some of the cheap crt's my school uses you can just barely see the xp login box in the center of the screen all the time it is just clear enough to read. Knowing how technically challenged the people at my school are, I would not be surprised if they left it on and unused for a ridiculous amount of time (entire summer break!?) so it may be a rare problem for most people.

Yeah that happens with CRT's. I don't know how frequently it happens with modern computers with Windows and such, but I know I've seen it happen in the past.

I really just want a screen saver for that extra "bang" feature. It's nice to walk into my room if I left my monitor on, and see my screen saver of fireworks being launched from a field and going off. Or my traditional matrix display lol. I'm just looking for something a little bit more.

Oh, and deviantart was what I was thinking of!

Don't worry about burn ins. With newer lcd monitors and tvs alike, you can at leave them on for days without use before even the slightest signs of burn in from still image start to appear. In when even they do, just a little usage is enough to bring it back to the way it was. Though I would say the best option is to use your computer power settings to automatically shut off the monitor after X number of minutes. I stopped using screensavers a long time ago and started doing this instead. Cuts down on my apartment power bill too. :p

Thanks I appreciate that. Fortunately though burn-ins were never an issue... just looking to change aesthetics! That's why I was looking for sites where I could take a gander through various screen savers... good, trusted websites of course!

Burnins haven't been an issue for Windows users since Windows 95 (that whole "60hz refresh rate" thing? it refreshes the image constantly, preventing burn in :x)

I get my wallpapers from: http://www.gamewallpapers.com (video game stuff) and http://www.skins.be (hot girlies) - skins.be also has links to cars, movies, etc in a similar format

  • 4 weeks later...

Hey guys,

Still back to the subject, any website recommendations (safe websites) that I can get some screen savers from? Again, screen burn in is NOT an issue, I just want a nice screen saver.
