bolix
hmm...Free-BSD? Edit: Found this Tiny Linux Requirements: processor : i386 or better hard disk : 50 Mo is enough for installation itself, but you will do better with at least 80 Mo ram: 8 MB minimum, 12 MB or 16 MB is better floppy drive :3"1/4 keyboard, mouse
CrimsonRedMk Member Posted December 2, 2008 Member Share Posted December 2, 2008 8MB RAM for presentations..like PowerPoints? Or presentations as in showing your friends your uber-awesome computer. The 8MB of RAM is a huge limitation. How about FreeDOS?
bolix
Yeah, i thought so myself. That laptop is hardly usable for those purposes. Your best use would be some sort of server or router.

The 8MB of RAM is a huge limitation. How about FreeDOS? 8 MB of RAM will be fine, since he has no network, USB or optical drive to load in large presentation. That leaves his 1.44MB floppy drive. :p

Elv13
Debian can run on that with the basic floppy install and xfbdev. It can even be usable without swap partition if you only have 1 or 2 aTerm/urxvt open at the same time. On my proff of concept bad laptop, I installed debian, X(fbdev), dwm, feh+ background, conky and urxvt and it used 5.5mb ram with mouse, graphic and everything. Other things like GPM and dbus were also running.
