OzO63
Ok, so i'ts throwing it down outside and here I am sat in my room playing some Left 4 Dead on my 360 when all of a sudden lightning strikes and theres a massive thunder clap. All the power in the house sort of tripped out for a split second.. the plugs, lights.. everything (it must have struck the power cables in the field near my house, has happened loads in the past) When everything came back on my 360 had the RROD  I turned it off and on again and it loaded up the dash ok, have not tried to play anything on it yet though.. you guys think it's been fried? Or did it only do that because the power cut out? If there are any experts on console lightning strikes here i would greatly appreciate your opinion
+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted December 4, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted December 4, 2008 The RROD you encounted is fine. It's actually not uncommon after a power surge. Read about it on here before. The power brick reports to the 360 that there was a problem. When you turned it on and off, it reset.
Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted December 4, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 4, 2008 if it loaded back up to the dash then i think that you should be fine with it however i would suggest that you either plug it into an UPS (uninterrupted power supply) or a Surge protector (not just a power strip or the wall) so that you can protect against such things. Not to mention most of these devices will come with some sort of guarantee stating that if products plugged into it are damaged because of its faults they will cover the replacement of them. spacer
The rule of thumb is turn off all electronics, unplug all the expensive stuff, during a bad lightning storm.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 4, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted December 4, 2008 The rule of thumb is turn off all electronics, unplug all the expensive stuff, during a bad lightning storm. I thought it was turn every appliance in your house on, open your windows and wrap yourself in tin foil? Boy I've been taking bad advice
Napalm Frog
I never really worry about my electronics. If one has a decent surge protector, lightning shouldn't do much. Now, if you have above ground wiring and electricity hits that, sending it through the wiring in your house to the XBox...

Mike
I thought it was turn every appliance in your house on, open your windows and wrap yourself in tin foil?Boy I've been taking bad advice  as stephen fry said, its best to lie on your back with your arse in the air as you're highly unlikely to be struck by lightning like that :p
The Teej
as stephen fry said, its best to lie on your back with your arse in the air as you're highly unlikely to be struck by lightning like that :p but if you do, the term "butthurt" doesn't quite cover it
ozgeek
When everything came back on my 360 had the RROD  I turned it off and on again and it loaded up the dash ok, This happened to mine TWICE (months apart) and the same 360 (which I bought in feb08) is still fine to this day. I heard UPS doesn't work with 360 very well. It interferes with the power brick.
