Grand Maester
Why do I have to go to a new page to sign in, When I click the Login button why doesnt it dynamically drop down and sign it. I just find it an inconvenience to go to another page to log in That's a good question. I can't say for sure but my guess is they probably have thought of it already and decided against it for one reason or another. Perhaps the invision powerboard platform doesn't allow it, I know that was the case with a suggestion I made: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...c=700460&hl I've been thinking that it would be really cool to have a separate subforum specifically related to improvement ideas. This one is far more general, I feel like if they had one specifically dealing with improvement suggestions the devs might get more involved in the dialog. I'm sure a lot of the same suggestions come up time and time again and are probably consistently discarded for the same reasons. I know the devs are busy but I think if they were more involved it might help answer a lot of questions.
shihchiun
How often are you signing in? Every forum I've ever visited does it that way. I know Digg and Hulu do the sign-in the way you suggest, but those sites were custom-developed. Neowin doesn't develop its own forum system. p858snake
Why are you signing in multiple times, just sign in the once and click remember me on the form.
Timan Veteran Posted December 5, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 5, 2008 Well if you're using the new theme, there is a login box in the breadcrumb bar (the part that shows neowin forums > forum name > topic title).

maash
Can you be a little more precise? What does "why doesnt it dynamically drop down" mean? Why doesn't WHAT dynamically drop down? meaning when you click login, a menu fades in below with the sign in screen. The reason I sign in is that I use multiple computers and I use all of them to log into neowin and I flush my cache everytime at the end of the day
Joel
The reason I sign in is that I use multiple computers and I use all of them to log into neowin and I flush my cache everytime at the end of the day So what does that have to do with having a dropdown or a new page? Bookmark the login page and start from there if you must.
Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted December 6, 2008 Global Moderator Share Posted December 6, 2008 a problem I can see with this is, forums like "Private Forum" is hidden for guests, and would need to load when logged in.

How exactly would that be a problem? He's talking about the login screen, not viewing forums.

Once logged in, the entire page would need to reload itself in order for that subforum to be available to you.

I don't see how this would be any different
