DrunknMunky Veteran Posted December 5, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 5, 2008 News by Rob PurcheseMicrosoft has boasted higher sales of Xbox 360s than PlayStation 3s across every region in Europe, including Sony-loyal territories such as Spain, France and Italy. The company reported the best November ever for the Xbox division in Europe, following the September price cuts, and saw sales rise a staggering 124 per cent on this time last year. Meanwhile, the Nintendo Wii managed a 43 per cent climb, while PlayStation 3 sales increased just 3 per cent, according to Microsoft. "November was a very significant milestone for Xbox - we sold the most consoles ever in our history in Europe, and are outselling PlayStation 3 week-on-week across Europe," cheered Chris Lewis, Euro Xbox 360 boss. "In the current economic conditions, consumers are more cautious than ever and looking for more value for their entertainment spend. "Xbox 360 delivers that value - we're now the best-value next-gen console on the market and this positive momentum indicates Xbox 360 is offering the right blend of gaming and entertainment experiences at the right price," he said. There are none of the mentioned GfK Chart-Track figures to back this up, because Europe is quite precious about this information for some reason. It's worth noting that the Wii probably still tops the sales pops, mind you. Lewis also said Microsoft was working with retailers to ensure a steady supply of consoles for Santa Claus this Christmas. Analyst Piers Harding-Rolls from Screen Digest thinks this Christmas will be the biggest ever for videogames by a "substantial margin", too, economic climate and all. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted December 5, 2008 Author Veteran Share Posted December 5, 2008 People are still tight fisted with the state of the economy right now, so to see the best sales in Xbox history at a time like this is bloody fantastic  Hope it continues (Y)
ToneKnee
I think The Xbox360 will still be ahead of the PS3 this Holiday Season. As MS stated, in the current economic climate, it's pretty obvious the Xbox360 with it's price cut is going to be hard not to go for.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 5, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted December 5, 2008 Gaming doesn't naturally get affected by economy issues, or much other media content. However having your console at a really cheap price while competition is higher helps you. I mean the Arcade isn't much more expensive than what PS2s are still being sold for. I do hope Sony at least cut their prices a little... AUD$700 for the PS3 is still a little too expensive for me...

Clearly you missed the news this week about Zavvi's supplier going into administration then! It definitely does get effected as its a luxury in life. When money is tight you put all those sorts of luxuries on hold, especially when you could lose your job etc.

The fact the 360 has sold what it has proves that. Not arguing about this for another offtopic, it's what the top dogs at Sony/MS report, as well as most of the media. Music/Gaming/Movies tend to do best during economic crisis'. And by best I don't mean better than when there's no crisis, I mean out of everything that suffers. Si_
Gaming doesn't naturally get affected by economy issues, or much other media content. What planet are you on? Gaming, just as everything else, gets affected by the global economy. Less expendable cash = less purchase of luxuries like games. Why do you think places like Game and Gamestation have taken to having sales, when as it's their core business they usually never do. These days, cheapest will win. PS3 will just fall further and further behind, and by the time they finally get in gear next april I don't think they can catch up since they're hitting a dead season in console buying -- unless they pull out something special. There's absolutely no need to keep swallowing the company line each time they say something, everyone plays down the hit to keep the share price up. Oh, and I'm on Earth ;) Great backtrack... I'd be interested in seeing some independant figures though for european sales taking into consideration the recent surge, I find it hard to believe PS3 is still ahead, despite the usual PR crap sony dish out. The Teej
I suspect Sony mean most units sold across all 3 platforms combined in Europe. Seen as Microsoft only has the 360 in Europe, Sony could probably pull the whole "total hardware sales as a company" card and not be pulling too much spin as the 360 is the only gaming hardware MS has. Nah, if that were the case it would be more than a 300K lead. 360 and PS3 might be neck and neck, but if you add the PSP/PS2 to the mix, the gap will be a bit bigger. And anyway, Reeves also indicated that the PS3 is currently outselling the Xbox 360 by 300k units in Europe Reeves says PS3. Don't let it keep you up at night, doesn't really matter right now.... whoever sells most at Christmas will probably take the lead anyway seeing as we could be hitting upper 3/4 towards 1,000,000 in sales.
