Dmitry G
Hi, I am just wondering if it is possible to hoop up a blu-ray drive to an xbox360 and watch films? Either having an external USB BD-ROM or internal... has anyone tried or knows? Thanks

Mathachew Veteran Posted December 5, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 5, 2008 Is Blu-Ray significantly better picture than HDDVD? At this point it doesn't matter. HD-DVD is dead.
notuptome2004
Is Blu-Ray significantly better picture than HDDVD? HD-DVD and BD format uses the same codec now well HD-DVD is gone now but still same codec so the same in quality
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 5, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted December 5, 2008 HD-DVD and BD format uses the same codec now well HD-DVD is gone now but still same codec so the same in quality Actually HD-DVD used VC-1, and so did early Blu Ray titles. Blu Ray now uses AVC.
goji
Is Blu-Ray significantly better picture than HDDVD? That is not the appropriate question. The question should read: Do studios who printed on both formats provide a better image on one format over the other? Response: Not really, though on first run most Blu studios provided some sloppy prints compared to what the competition provided. But as mat' stated, its really a mute point now. Reacon
ok fair enough. i best get myself a blu-ray player then :p or a PS3 I think you'll find more value in the player. Even so, Blu-Ray is pretty worthless. Just buy an HD-DVD player, you'll be wishing you saved that money later.

HawkMan
No point in bluRay yet, just wait 1-2 years. and then decide since 1: you shoudl be able to get BD players for 50-100 by then, if not it's a dea dborn format. and 2: by then we'll see how far all the downloadable solution have come. Matrix XII
You can get standalone blu-ray players now for around $250 or less I believe, which is quite worth it.
Mathachew Veteran Posted December 8, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 8, 2008 Sony had a special on their site, which they may still have, where you could get $150 credit on a PlayStation card and purchase a PS3 for $249 as a result. My friend took advantage of that, his PS3 will be arriving on Monday.
+Fulcrum Subscriber¹ Posted December 8, 2008 Subscriber¹ Share Posted December 8, 2008 PS3 is one of the best BD Players, supporting all the latest features and will continue to be future updateable. It's quite a simple choice with the promo mentioned in post #20.
Coldgunner
Save up for a PS3, not only do you get a decent BD player, you also get a media hub. Plus there are some great games. Might as well have both consoles in the long run.

spenser.d
You can get standalone blu-ray players now for around $250 or less I believe, which is quite worth it. I have to disagree. I watched Iron Man in HD a week ago and I can't honestly say it looks $250 better than any upscaled DVDs that I watch. I'll be waiting until BD players are sub-$100 to go after one. -Spenser
