ok fair enough. i best get myself a blu-ray player then :p

or a PS3

What size TV do you have if it is under 43" your just better off with the netflix streaming or regular DVD

But if you do get a blueray player your better of with a PS3 (As much as I hate to say it)

I have to disagree. I watched Iron Man in HD a week ago and I can't honestly say it looks $250 better than any upscaled DVDs that I watch. I'll be waiting until BD players are sub-$100 to go after one.

I was thinking the same thing. We were watching Iron Man on BD at work on one of the new Sony XBR6 models and it didnt look better than my upscaled version on my 360 HD-DVD player at home.

It's true, you don't need to enjoy your favorite movies on HD, and you aren't any less of a fan if you stick to standard definition; but it's hard to argue that it doesn't look a lot better. Even at 720p you're getting 60% more pixels and the technology in these new tv's is able to produce each line multiple times to give you a lot better picture. Picture isn't the only improvement over SD, sound can be output in several channels, it can even simulate surround sound on just 2 speakers, finally there's all those bonus features, HD discs offer soo much more. Even though movie studios typically film in 35mm film, which can technically contain more than 2x the amount of information we are seeing in 1080P; Even professionals have a hard time telling 1080p HD apart from 35MM when it's on these new tv sets.
