Navigation Pane Usability Mod

Windows Vista: Navigation Pane Usability Mod.

Code name "Breathing Room." (harhar)

Shellstyle modification for a more user-friendly navigation pane:

Navigation_Pane_Usability_Mod_by_Saarineames.png

- Favorite Links header removed

- Modified padding for common places host.

- Header expand/collapse button trimmed and window text adjusted.

- No functionality has been reduced.

- Extra: Added a gradient to the header expand/collapse button for a smoother transition between common places and the tree.

- No other cosmetic changes were made to the shellstyle.

A little extra space really makes a difference when using non-maximized windows.

Makes a nice replacement or alternative to default Aero shellstyle. Enjoy!

Hey,

You need to take ownership/full control of the shellstyle.dll and rename it to "shellstyle.dll.bak" (your backup), then paste in the new file. Run the aero.msstyles again, but switch to say Windows Standard or Classic (running the same theme currently set won't adjust to the changes) and hit Apply. Now, switch back to Windows Aero (or Basic) and run it.

Hope that helps. :)

How to I take full control of the shellstyle?

Thx :)

Follow these steps to take ownership and full control of the file:

Right-click > Properties > Advanced

Security (tab) > Advanced > Owner (tab)

Edit > (under "Change owner to:") Select your account. (Hit OK x2)

(Back to) Properties > Advanced

Edit > (Under "Group or user names:") Select your account, and for "Allow", check "Full Contol" (hit OK, Yes, Ok).

That's it!

Worked like a charm, thanks!

No problem! Cheers.
