kylejn
I was just thinking about this. Wouldn't it be great if GameFly were integrated with Xbox Live in the same what that NetFlix is? Where you could rent games through Live and download them to your machine? NXE added the ability to install games to the hard drive, so it would only be a matter of wrapping some DRM around the install and that'd be it. I would sign up for GameFly immediately if they offered this sort of service. You're sitting at home, decide that you want to play some Xbox 360 game, so you stick it in your queue on Xbox Live and it's ready to play a couple hours later. Awesome. Rookas
6 GB downloads? Uggh. I love gamefly, I'm currently on the 4 game plan, but I'm cool with waiting three days to get my games. Good idea, but not practical.
Corris Veteran Posted December 7, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 7, 2008 Doubt that would ever happen. Firstly they don't offer anything like that now, which is why NetFlick was so easy to integrate, it already offers streaming movies to the PC, so the Xbox360 is just another medium to stream to. And secondly, I just don't see it working at the moment, I don't think publishers would be too happy if such a system would take off, they would lose out surely. Well it only takes like somewhere between 1 and 3 hours  It's really not as slow as you may think, and it would be even faster with those big ol' US connections. Lengthy downloads are only part of the problem. Another problem would be gamefly raising prices to pay for bandwidth, that would make me a sad panda. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted December 7, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 7, 2008 Yeah pricing would be a problem, no doubt you'd be paying through the nose and have some sort of limit per day / month. It'd still be quicker than waiting for it to arrive in the mail though. Edit: SP reference ftw (Y)
Ayepecks
Call me crazy, but I don't see this happening.
Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted December 7, 2008 Global Moderator Share Posted December 7, 2008 I bet they would cut off the Canadian users, just like netflix's. A good idea, but maybe not in this time and age.. where bandwidth cap seems to be the standard.
Elessar
I'm sure bandwidth versus shipping costs would balance out. The real problem is getting the developers and publishers to go along with the idea. Gamefly would likely have to give them a %age of the profits, which i'm sure would be worth it, but it's something to consider.
