Microsoft drops major hint on Crackdown sequel

Microsoft?s given a less than subtle hint that a sequel to Realtime World?s beloved open-city 360 shooter, Crackdown, is a little more than fantasy.

?I?m here to tell you on behalf of the community, I want - we need - another Crackdown,? Xbox Live?s director of programming, Larry Hryb, told MGS boss Phil Spencer in the latest Major Nelson podcast.

?That?s all I?m going to say, so you don?t have to confirm for deny anything. I?m just saying we want it.?

?Yes, Crackdown?s one of my favourites,? said Spencer. ?I?ll leave it at that.?

A sequel to Crackdown never materialized as ?the numbers just didn?t add up,? we were told by Realtime Worlds studio boss Colin Macdonald told us this summer.

Macdonald himself said at the time that the studio was open to negotiations on a second game.

?I don?t think the door?s closed,? he said. ?Obviously, right now we?re tied up with APB and everything else, but hopefully in the future we?ll have the resource and something can be worked out with Microsoft.?

Crackdown 2 is inevitable. The original was popular because it was (and still is) one of the most enjoyable games around, not because it came with the Halo 3 beta like a lot of people believe.

Yeah it's a good game. Hopefully in a sequal they do something to make the missions more interesting but. Assassinations get a bit dull after a while especially when sometimes you can almost jump straight to the target.

Still, I'd love a sequel.

Only trouble was, RTW said they weren't sure they'd be interested in making another one because MS didn't approach them right away to make it. They waited to see if it was a success.

It sounds pretty obvious as a publisher thats what you'd do, but RTW took it in the way they lacked confidence in them etc.

If I find the article I'll post it, it was published sometime last summer iirc.

Loved that game. However it lacked replayability and all the missions were pretty much the same. If the could improve on this and other aspects it could be one hell of a game!

Loved Crackdown! I just hope they add a less repetitive way of gaining skill-levels, perhaps even through some elaborate missions or through 'training' you earn some skills. Game felt more like an MMO where you had to grind skills, specially towards the end it was seriously repetitive.

I'm actually in the mood to go back and play Crackdown now lol

 same here. still one of my favourites for the 360. speaking of great games from last year (i think), quite offtopic i guess, but was there any news about a sequel for the Darkness? would love to see that too.

Oooh definitely another classic

As for a sequel, I doubt anything is in motion yet. Starbreeze are currently porting Chronicles of Riddick to PS3/360/Windows.

I agree Crackdown was an awesome game. I had a ton of fun playing it, and when you got together with a friend, it was even more fun, just causing chaos in the game world. A sequel would be great, but honestly, I think it should've already been in development lol.

It probably already is. I can't see them dropping a hint like this if we still have to wait an entire development cycle to see it released.

I remember everyone bought the game to get the Halo beta but then when they tried the game most actually liked it. :D I got it afterwards and really like the gameplay so I'm another one hoping for 2.
