Fonze
I have collected a large number of PC games over the years, starting back in the pre-Windows 95 days when the games ran in DOS. I had most of these games in their original boxes with game manuals, but as I started to run out of storage space I decided to break down the boxes and just keep the CDs and Manuals. I assume most of these games will not run on Vista and future OS's, so it almost seems like a waste of time holding onto them. I just hate thinking that some day I may want to revisit one of these games and I would have given/thrown it away. It would be awesome if I could trade in the original CD and Manual for a digital copy that I could hold onto for the foreseeable future. What do you guys do with your old PC games? Do you just throw them away after a few years? Or do you donate/sell them?
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted December 8, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 8, 2008 Most of mine are boxed away in the attic or under my bed!
ToneKnee
I miss the old days where games came in big boxes with manuals and stuff like that. Like opening Christmas presents! :D
sanctified Veteran Posted December 8, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 8, 2008 Give them to a friend, donate or sell them on eBay. You would get rid of that clutter while gaining some money or strengthen a relationship.
Nauttika
horde them! horde them & their boxes I say! lol but more importantly back them as .iso and share them with all of us!
Michael Lacey
Either keep them for collector's purposes, or donate them. You can get most DOS games working under DOSbox.
shihchiun
Make an ISO image and then sell them. Not technically legal, I think, but if they're old enough I doubt anyone is around to care.
cropcircles
I have a half dozen in a drawer here. Its funny to see the size of those things. Looking at my Jane's Air Superiority Collection you got charts, a manual and the disks were beautiful. They sure don't put much into packaging for PC games nowadays. Syanide
Make someone happy, donate them. Not all if you don't want to, but I'm sure some kids out there with old computers would appreciate it.
A10
I toss most of my old games at least the ones from the last decade. Have been playing Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 lately had to install 98SE in a VM box for it to work properly, but it still works a majority of the time better than Far Cry 2 which only loads when it wants to. bobbytomorow
A couple times a year I go through all my stuff and whatever I haven't used in a long time I donate or give away. I can't stand clutter, too many people are pack rats these days.

D. S. Veteran Posted December 26, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 26, 2008 I keep them archived in their original boxes. Yes, I still have them. Yes, most of them are in mint or near-mint condition. I built a special room in my house to store my collections: pictures, dvd's, games, etc. :)
jelli
CD/DVDs make great coasters, if i ever have a burn fail or don't need a CD/DVD again it becomes a coaster for my desk.

DanManIt
My uncle always hands them down to me. After I finish them they usually get put into the storage room in the basement.

Reacon
I hoard all my games. They might be worth something one day. I recently found an original Quake in good condition at a pawn shop. It was 3$, and I'm still enjoying it. Same goes for Quake 3.
maeby
throw em out, it feels good!
Skyfrog
Some of them may be worth quite a bit with the boxes, but if you destroy the boxes that pretty much kills any value they had.
