Guitar hero world tour vs Rock band 2

Recommended Posts

Personally, Rock Band 2, better DLC, Rock Band 1 track imports, but overall to me, it just feels like a better game, GHWT kinda felt a bit soulless to me (I know, weird thing to say, but it feels like I'm just playing it because I want to get through it, rather than enjoying it.

GHWT's got the better note tracking on some of the songs, and the character creator's better, but that's about it for me.

I feel the exact same when it comes to RB1/2, and that's because there is a **** load of crappy songs on it. GH has its fair share of crap too and theres some songs I just wish I could skip.

Gameplay wise, you are doing the same thing, it doesn't really matter in that sense. So look at the soundtracks and DLC you like better, then which game modes you think you'll enjoy (although they are pretty similar).

And finally the instruments you like better, seeing as you'll be using them extensively, you want them to be comfortable/durable as well as good looking.

RB has more DLC but its been out about a year longer so that's obvious really, it also has a lot more supporters from an extra years sales but that doesn't mean it's better, people don't always like to admit they've made the wrong choice :D , of course unless GH really starts pushing lots of songs out every week I doubt they'll catch up in DLC, but it's the quality of what your taste is not the quantity.

Also take into account who's going to play it with you and look at the track list, some songs may not suit your crowd of friends or family, and if you have friends with one buy the other to get a more varied track list between you, unless you want to play more online rather than visit them.

May be worth looking for some sales figures, if one starts to sell a lot better than the other (and with the huge sales of GH3 and DLC now available on the Wii for WT I'd put my money on WT) you will probably start to see record companies favour where the bigger sales are in DLC when releasing new tracks as they'll make more money.

Both systems will probably do well in the future, but one may turn out to be HD-DVD and the other Blu-ray, who knows.

As a proud owner of GH:WT...

To me the determining factor was that I needed the game for my Wii (we have a Wii and a PS2, and the PS2 is an original) and RB2 wasn't available until at least the end of December (i got it in early November).

There are 85 tracks provided with the game not including DLC content. DLC content is picking up in frequency, and it's good (fun) stuff for the most part (some of it just isn't my preference in music).

I don't know how many tracks are included in RB2 (outside of the DLC), but from what I hear the track list is more fun in that it's inclusive of many more "party" songs than GH:WT. But I don't know that for sure as I haven't played it nor looked it up online.

The downloadable content should be getting better all the time, but I don't feel as if it's off to a bad start.

The instruments are very different from RB2. To start, the guitar features the new slider bar. I love the concept, and it's fun to be able to produce a different sound on long notes aside from the standard whammy. My major complaints with the slider bar are:

+ In MOST songs there isn't enough time to transition between the fret buttons and the slider bar and

+ it's hard to tell where the slider bar is when you're playing as there are no color indicators on the top of the neck (but that's easily fixed with some paint markers)

Still, I'm beginning to get better and better at just jumping between the fret buttons and the slider bar, so I look at it as more of a challenge than an "easy" feature.

In RB2 the guitar is really exactly the same, with the same smaller fret buttons way down on the neck that nobody ever uses anyway.

The drums are MUCH more realistic than RB's, and for a few reasons. I always felt that the RB set felt queer in how the pads changed "sounds" depending upon what was going on at the time. A pad should make a "drum" noise, not a cymbal noise. Then, even though the RB set SEEMS to support more inputs, those cymbals are purely for show and there is no difference between the sound generated when hitting the same color pad/cymbal. So it's a big ol' FAKEY.

In GH:WT the hi hat is always a hi hat, the crash does "change" between crash and ride which is close enough to be forgiveable, in both placement and sound, the far left pad is always a snare, the other two are high/low toms, and the base is a base (as it is in RB2). The whole experience just feels alittle better thought out in my opinion.

In both songs the mic is a mic, but I think it's neat that in GH:WT you can choose how you want the vocals to appear on screen (be it sliding or "Sing Star" style).

There are also some differences in the way "Star Power" is earned and used. GH:WT has each player adding to a pool contributed by and used by everybody. This is alittle wierd, but innovative. It's innovative in that it makes each player accountable to themselves, but by group means. For instance, they may be missing all of their star power opportunities and getting ready to fail, but so long as the rest of the band is earning enough they can save themselves.

In RB2 it much more communal all the way around.

Both are different, but I don't feel as if one is better than the other. Despite their differences they seem to produce the same results.

But really all it comes down to is which product you're more fond of. Me? I'm not fully partial to either. So as long as RB2 allows me

to use my GH:WT instruments (and from what I hear it will), I'll be the proud owner of both ;)

I think that covers it pretty well. If I think of anything else I'll edit my post.

With GH:WT career you have to play the setlists, whereas on RB2 career you need to play certain songs about 100 times.

Unless you use the unlock codes, that is.

I prefer RB2, the DLC is what makes it totally worth it (Y)

Having owned both of them, my vote goes for Rock Band 2 as well. There are only a few songs on the new Guitar Hero that I honestly like...the rest are sub par/boring to me.

Another thing I like about Rock Band is the fact that there is less time to play the notes, making songs a more difficult to play. I was able to pick up GHWT and on Expert/Guitar i went through 83 songs before failing the first time. I still haven't beaten the 85th song but I've only wanted to play a few of the songs more than once. Also, Rock Band 2 is just a lot more refined than GHWT. There are many things in GHWT that I just don't understand why they are even there (aka the pointless story mode/GH Tunes). One final thing is, my GHWT guitar has already broken (red button). This is the first guitar I have ever broken as well.

For the complete package, go with RB2.

Heh, I got the GHWT band pack as I think I'll like the instruments better than the RB ones (RB2 instruments arent out here yet).

I'm grabbing RB2 Solus on Friday anyway since everything is compatible. Need to borrow RB1 from someone though?

I own both and for some reason i think Rock Band 2 is just a better game. The song choice is better and it feels better to play and the sound quality is a lot better on Rock Band 2. Also one thing i noticed with Guitar Hero WT is that some of the songs you don't feel like you're playing the song, just hitting a random button sequence.

I own both and agree to get RB2. I tried really hard to like GH:WT when I first got it....but I just don't. I just completed all the careers...but the songs are just not very good. I didn't mind playing them on guitar/bass/drums....for the most part, but they were horribly overcharted and the way starpower works with bands and on drums is completely retarded. I find the interface much more confusing than RB2. Also, vocals in GH:WT are awful. The scoring is ridiculously hard in that there's not a single song you can really 100% besides the Beastie Boys one. That and there's 18 garbage vocal songs for every one good one. Who honestly wants to sing foreign songs?

Just my 2 cents...fwiw.
